Position Summary
Block Institute is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support the health, safety, and well-being of preschool-aged children enrolled in our educational program. The LPN will provide direct nursing services, monitor student health needs, maintain medical records, and collaborate with families, educators, therapists, and healthcare providers to ensure students receive appropriate care in a safe learning environment.
The ideal candidate is committed to working with young children, including children with developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs, and believes in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing educational setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Health Management
- Provide nursing care and health support to preschool students throughout the school day.
- Observe, assess, and document students’ health status and report concerns to appropriate staff and families.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid as needed.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions and implement individual health care plans.
Health Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all students.
- Ensure compliance with New York State Department of Health, Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), and applicable educational regulations.
- Review student and staff medical forms, immunization records, and health assessments to ensure completeness and compliance.
- Document incidents, treatments, medication administration, and nursing interventions in a timely manner.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a health resource for teachers, therapists, and other school personnel.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and medical needs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to student care planning.
Health & Safety
- Monitor classrooms and school environments for health and safety concerns.
- Support infection control practices, including the management of communicable illnesses and implementation of prevention protocols.
- Assist with health screenings and wellness initiatives.
- Provide staff training and guidance regarding student health needs, emergency procedures, and medication administration when applicable.
Salary: $60,000-$70,000 per year
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, Pre-School Calendar

QualificationsRequired qualifications
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Minimum one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Proficiency with electronic documentation and record keeping.
Preferred
- Experience working with preschool-aged children.
- Experience in a school, pediatric, developmental disability, or early intervention setting.
- Knowledge of special education and related healthcare needs.
