School Liaison

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School to Careers Director,the School Liaison's role is to interface with school and community partners and to support and deliver successful program objectives of the School-To-Careers Program throughout the BOCES region.

The School Liaison is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive work-based learning continuum with scalable practices for participating partners. The essential functions can be divided into three major categories: Program Development & Management, Training & Data Management, and School & Community Coordination.

Essential Functions

Program Development & Management:

Functions as the primary contact for schools, community organizations and nonprofit staff. Position is responsible for coordinating high school-to-careers and nonprofit-to-business work-based learning opportunities.

Assists local school districts, non-profits and Workforce Investment Act providers in defining and clarifying regional work-based learning needs.

Defines and clarifies a regional continuum of work-based learning experiences.

Develops and promotes internship structures in collaboration with partners.

Develops a regional school-based toolkit and community-based toolkit for work-based learning.

Develops a series of school-based and work-based competencies scalable for the region.

Formulates replicable and adaptable policy and procedure frameworks for the region.

Assists with marketing work-based learning opportunities, including job shadows, mentorships, company tours, and career exploration activities to students, parents, teachers and staff

Training & Data Management:

Provides a high level of customer service and technical assistance to schools, community organizations and businesses which could include keeping projects on schedule and completing required internship forms, and correcting process and implementation errors.

Provides training for school and community professionals as necessary on work-based integration, employability skills, WBL guidelines and "career ready" standards during project implementation.

Inputs, manages, and synthesizes youth, school and community performance data using data systems to ensure accurate program reporting.

Prepares and submits required monthly and quarterly reports and other documents as requested.

School & Community Coordination:

Works to develop, identify and support business engagement in work-based learning opportunities.

Attends business outreach meetings as necessary.

Disseminates information on Work-Based Learning programs to schools and community partners.

Serves as a liaison between school districts, community organizations and employers.

Coordinates activities and trainings with schools and community organizations.

Develops and implements a Train-the-Trainer model to be used by community partners for screening, interviewing and selecting qualified students for work-based learning experiences.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of variety of student disabilities or circumstances that may impact one's performance in various work environments.

Knowledge of state procedures and local polices regarding students working in the public and private sectors.

Working knowledge of state and federal child labor laws and worker permit regulations.

Organizational skills to work independently.

Analytical skills to interpret student assessment results, behavior, and work capabilities.

Communication skills needed to relate effectively to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and business owners and their employees.

Computer skills, including word processing databases, and power point.

Mathematical skills to calculate student grades.

Knowledge of work demands and work ethics across a variety of business setting.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License:

New York State Certification as a Work-Based Learning Coordinator.

New York State Certification as a school counselor or Career and Technical Education Teacher preferred.

Education:

Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Masters Degree in related area preferred.

Experience

Successful prior teaching experiences a plus.
