School Health Associate- RN

Full-Time

Position Description

The School Health Associate � Registered Nurse (RN) creates individualized health plans for students, collaborates with other staff members around the school to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans, and trains staff regarding medical topics. They also provide direct medical care to students, conducting health assessments and screenings, administering medications and treatments, and maintaining student health records in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. The RN may also oversee, train, and educate School Health Associate � Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and health aides in their building/district.

Qualifications

Employment in this position is contingent upon compliance with applicable pre-employment requirements, including the satisfactory completion of required criminal records checks and fingerprinting in accordance with Ohio Revised Code �3319.39 and other applicable laws and HCESC policies.

Required

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure: Valid license as a Registered Nurse; valid Ohio driver's license
  • Certificates, Certifications, or Other Training: CPR/First Aid certification
  • Previous Work-Related Experience: 1-2 years
  • Previous Supervisory Experience: None
  • Access to reliable transportation to fulfill job duties

Preferred

  • Previous school nursing experience
  • Previous pediatric nursing experience

Essential Job Functions

Administrative Tasks

  • Document interactions with students and ensure student health records are up-to-date, accurate, and readily accessible to appropriate staff
  • Report communicable diseases to the public health center along with appropriate documentation.
  • Track immunization compliance and vision and health screening results and report results to the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Communicate with students, families, and staff regarding student medical needs.
  • Develop individualized health plans, IEP nursing services, and 504 plans.
  • Assess students and treat them as necessary, administering medications or providing other treatment.
  • Refer students to parents or emergency services for additional medical care.
  • Document provided medical care.
  • Ensure the health office is clean and sterile as needed.
  • Maintain medical equipment and tools.

Training & Oversight

  • Train and oversee School Health Associate � Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and health aides.
  • Teach staff about first aid, medication administration, seizure training, bloodborne pathogens, and other health safety and awareness topics.
  • Teach students healthy habits, infection control, and how to use a variety of tools and medical devices (such as inhalers, EpiPens, wheelchairs or other walking aids, hearing aids, etc.).
