School Crossing Supervisor

  • Multiple part-time permanent and casual pool positions available.
  • Band 1 position.
  • Salary commencing at $34.34 per hour (+ 25% loading for casuals) plus 12% superannuation.

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is looking to engage several School Crossing Supervisors to maintain the safety of children and pedestrians at school crossings across our municipality.

As a School Crossing Supervisor your key responsibilities will be to help children safely across the road, teach children how to use a crossing safely and provide a courteous service to pedestrians. Hours of work will be rostered at the start or end of school days for between 45 minutes to 1 hour per shift. Experience in a similar position is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and supervise allocated school crossing during designated times, in line with Council and VicRoads provided training and procedures.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with all pedestrians, assisting them to cross safely and as required, educate children and other pedestrians about safety at school crossings.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, near misses and potential risks to the Supervisor – School Crossing Program, as soon as possible; and,
  • Report any maintenance issues affecting the operation of the crossing, or safety of crossing users to the Supervisor – School Crossing Program, as soon as possible.

Skills & Experience

  • General understanding of the road regulations.
  • Demonstration of good road sense and judgement.
  • Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from users.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to identify and discuss problems; and
  • Hold a current and valid Working with Children check or be willing to apply for one.
