Job Description

The School Counselor provides guidance, support, and counseling services to students in academic and emotional spheres. They collaborate with other school faculty and parents to integrate programming that addresses the needs of students.

Responsibilities:

• Meet with individual students to address educational, emotional, social, and behavioral concerns.
• Provide guidance and support to students in developing academic and career goals.
• Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and other interventions to assist students in achieving their goals.
• Provide prevention and intervention services to address concerns such as substance abuse, violence, and crisis intervention.
• Assist students in developing coping and problem-solving skills.
• Develop and facilitate group counseling sessions with students.
• Evaluate student academic progress, course selection, and potential areas of growth.
• Maintain student records and confidentiality.
• Work cooperatively with teachers, parents, support staff, and other school faculty to integrate counseling services into the school curriculum.
• Serve on committees and attend meetings as directed by the administration.
• Use research-based strategies and techniques in counseling and education.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in school counseling or related field.
• State-issued school counseling certification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with diverse student populations.
• Knowledge of student development and learning, as well as individual and group counseling theory and techniques.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing school counseling.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, support staff, and other school faculty.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
