The McKeown School of Education is seeking applicants for a full-time, professor of practice position with a specialization in School Counseling beginning in September 2027. The School Counseling Program prepares candidates to be educational leaders, social justice advocates, and system change agents with an emphasis on working in a variety of urban and suburban settings. This faculty member will teach a total of six graduate level classes per year, as well as advising school counseling students. Course topics may include: Multicultural Counseling, Career Counseling, Seminar in School Adjustment Counseling, and School Counseling practicum/seminar courses.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract Duties include teaching, advising, and demonstrated consistent and substantive effort to maintaining modern skills and knowledge in their field of practice. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

This position will work collaboratively with the graduate program coordinator and the field office to facilitate program coordination. For the academic year 2027-2028, shared program coordination duties include:

  • The direct supervision of school counseling candidates
  • Conducting student admission reviews and new student onboarding
  • Managing students’ plans of study
  • Monitoring of internship and practicum site approval and accountability
  • Reporting of hours
  • Assisting with curriculum planning
  • Maintaining records for a program with national reach.

Required Qualifications

  1. An earned masters degree in school counseling or a related area
  2. Current licensure/certification as a practicing school counselor
  3. A minimum of three years of documented prior experience as a school counselor
  4. An understanding of the school adjustment counselor role
  5. Experience working with students through hybrid learning, mentoring, and training
  6. Membership in the American School Counseling Association

Preferred Qualifications

  1. An earned PhD in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program or PhD in Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program
  2. Evidence of strong clinical skills and a strong school counselor identity
  3. Evidence of strong teaching skills at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Working Location

This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities.
