The Governors of Preshute CE (VC) Primary School are looking for highly organised, strategic and proactive School Business Manager to join our dedicated team.
Preshute Primary School is a vibrant village school situated in the centre of our local community and located just outside the delightful town of Marlborough, Wiltshire.
Preshute takes children from across Manton, Marlborough and adjoining villages. We currently have 136 children on role ranging in age from 4 to 11-year olds. Our children are enthusiastic learners with positive and hardworking attitudes who are at the centre of everything we do.
All about the role:
This is a pivotal role within the school, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors to ensure the effective leadership and management of the school’s financial, operational and administrative functions.
You will play a key role in ensuring that resources, systems, and services are efficient, compliant, and fully aligned to support school improvement and the best possible outcomes for our children.
The role includes day-to-day management of a team of three support staff, ensuring high standards, clear accountability, and strong operational delivery.

You will lead on:
• Strategic financial planning, budgeting, and resource management
• Oversee administration, HR processes, compliance and operational systems
• Support the management and development of the school site, premises and health & safety procedures
• Operational leadership across administration, estates, and support services
• Development of efficient, compliant systems and processes
• Procurement, contract management, and value for money
• Compliance, risk management, and statutory requirements
• Ensure policies and procedures are up to date and implemented effectively
• Manage HR processes, including recruitment, onboarding and staff records
• Promote high standards of professionalism, efficiency and customer service across the school community
• Work collaboratively with staff, governors, families, external agencies and the Local Authority
We are looking for someone who:
• Has proven experience in financial and strong organisational skills and a focus on continuous improvement
• Demonstrates excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
• Has experience of operational management within a school or similar environment
• Is able to manage competing priorities effectively whilst maintaining high standards
• Is confident operating at a strategic level
• Is highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Can work independently with initiative and is calm in a busy, working environment
• Understands the importance of compliance, risk, and governance
• Is proactive, resilient, and solutions-focused
• Is committed to working collaboratively with the whole school community
• Understands how effective business management supports teaching and learning
• Has a comprehensive understanding of IT systems and management software
• Has a flexible, solution-focused approach
• Has a good sense of humour and rapport with the children.
