Job Description

A School Bus or Van Driver is a person who, under the supervision of an Operations Manager, or Dispatcher, operates a School Bus or Van over designated routes transporting school students or clients to and from school or other locations. In addition, a School Bus or Van Driver may transport clients on private charter trips. School Bus or Van Drivers may work with loud and disruptive clients. Drivers may also work with special needs individuals.

As a School Bus or Van Driver for the Pine-Richland School District, you will have the support of a dedicated, local management team and the training needed to perform your job safely, and with care.

School Bus and Van Drivers are responsible for the safe delivery of students to and from school along set routes, adherence to school bus safety, bus stop safety standards, and daily vehicle inspections, among other duties.

Pay Range: School Bus Driver: $25.00 per hour

School Van Driver: $20.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Drive a School Bus or Van route - picking up and dropping off student passengers at established stops on the route.
  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Conduct post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Clean School Bus or Van as necessary to maintain a professional appearance and positive company image.
  • As requested or desired to take field trips, activity trips and charter runs to transport students and other passengers to and from their destinations.

Required Skills/Abilities- Essential Job Requirements:

  • State-Required Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (For School Bus Driver positions). If you do not have a School Bus CDL Driver's License, we will provide qualified candidates the necessary training to obtain the School Bus CDL Driver's License.
  • State-Required Driver's License (For Non-CDL Van Driver positions)
  • Ability to successfully pass Federal/State required Background Checks, Current report of Driver Physical Examination, TB Test, Pre-employment drug testing (We will help you obtain this)
  • State specific requirements: PA Child Abuse History Certification (We will help you obtain this)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of assigned vehicles. May include extra equipment such as wheelchair lifts, and air brakes under all road and weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as evidenced by a good driving record
  • Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to heat, cold, wet and/or humid weather conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud
  • Ability to attend work on a regular and dependable basis
  • Ability to comply with all policies and procedures established by company

Education/Experience Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with 3 years of personal driving experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving history, CDL preferred (for School Bus positions) but not required. We provide PAID School Bus CDL training for qualified applicants.
  • Ability to successfully pass Federal/State required Background Checks, Current report of Driver Physical Examination, TB Test, Pre-employment drug testing (We will help you obtain this)
