
Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. GLFHC is currently seeking a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Medical Assistant to join our School-Based Health Center team. As a key member of the care team, the SBHC Medical Assistant supports both clinical and administrative operations to ensure high-quality patient care for students. This role works closely with providers, school personnel, and administrative staff to promote efficient workflows, improve patient access, and deliver exceptional service in a school-based healthcare setting.
Perform patient intake, obtain medical histories, vital signs, administer vaccines, perform phlebotomy, and complete point-of-care testing.
Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and patient education.
Maintain CLIA-waived testing logs, infection control documentation, and emergency management compliance.
Manage patient follow-up, including portal messages, appointment reminders, and telephone triage.
Monitor vaccine inventory, temperature logs, and medication storage requirements.
Coordinate with school nurses to ensure student immunization records remain current.
Support patient registration, insurance verification, demographic updates, and consent documentation.
Assist students with Health Safety Net (HSN) applications and insurance enrollment.
Oversee front desk operations, scheduling, and patient flow while delivering exceptional customer service.
Assist with specialist referrals, laboratory orders, medical records, billing support, and co-pay collection.
Serve as a liaison between clinical and administrative teams to ensure seamless operations.
Train and mentor Patient Services Representatives and new staff while supporting workflow improvement initiatives.
Float to other School-Based Health Center locations as needed when schools are not in session.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certification required).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Vaccine certification preferred.
Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, including phlebotomy.
Minimum 2 years of patient services or administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Strong organizational, multitasking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative, patient-centered approach.
