School Age Teacher - Before & After School Childcare

Location: The Learning Experience - Gaithersburg, MD

Pay: $17.00-$20.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Monday-Friday | Hours based on program needs

The Learning Experience - Gaithersburg is hiring a caring, energetic, and dependable School Age Teacher to support our school-age childcare program!

We're looking for someone who can create a fun, structured environment where children can build friendships, develop independence, complete schoolwork, and enjoy meaningful activities outside the regular school day.

Candidates must meet Maryland's School-Age Teacher qualification requirements.

What You'll Do

• Lead engaging, age-appropriate activities for elementary school-aged children
• Plan arts and crafts, games, STEM activities, and hands-on learning experiences
• Support homework time, reading, and independent learning
• Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and positive social interactions
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-organized classroom
• Establish consistent routines and use positive behavior guidance
• Supervise indoor and outdoor activities while maintaining required staff-to-child ratios
• Build positive relationships with children and communicate with families
• Collaborate with fellow teachers and center leadership
• Follow Maryland childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements

Qualifications

• Must meet Maryland School-Age Teacher qualification requirements
• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous professional experience working with school-aged children preferred
• Experience in before- and after-school programs, childcare centers, summer camps, or elementary education is a plus
• Understanding of school-age child development and positive behavior management
• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
• Patient, dependable, energetic, and comfortable leading group activities
• Must meet applicable Maryland Office of Child Care licensing requirements
