
Responsibilities:
Responsible for scheduling surgeries for all outpatient services of the facility.
Works closely with physicians and their office staff to ensure all information is on the surgical reservation is correct.
Obtains a completed electronic surgical reservation and enters the surgical case data into a computerized scheduling system in a timely manner. (All 14 pieces of information required- along with special request)
Interacts with many departments ensuring a proper level of equipment and supplies are available for surgery.
Notifies proper staff when a surgeon request “special” equipment, supplies or vendor.
Verification of next day surgery schedules along with the correct ordering of cases from surgeon and operating room staff.
Must reach out to specialty nurse if preference cards need to be added or current preference cards need updating. Also, if unsure on which preference card to select, must call specialty nurse to confirm.
Follow process for reschedule or cancelled surgical cases according to standard work that has been written for the Surgical Home.
Works closely with the nursing supervisor, nurses in the surgical home and operating room specialty nurses to ensure accurate information is entered into the system.
Communicates all changes in the schedule to all involved in surgical services.
Trained personnel as backup for scheduling surgeries.
Strong computer knowledge and experience working with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
Ability to handle a high volume of incoming phone calls and prioritize workload.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
Qualifications:
Excellent phone etiquette
Basic knowledge of computer software skills
High school diploma or GED
