Scheduling & Billing Specialist – Work at Home – Virginia


Facilitates the scheduling of endoscopy and surgical cases and related ancillary and diagnostic services, pre-operative tests, appointments and classes for all Richmond Bon Secours Mercy Healthcare locationsShares information with appropriate resources to ensure smooth processing of patients through the surgical pathway.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as front-line customer service representative for physicians’ offices for scheduling surgical or endoscopy cases and related appointments

  • Collects, verifies and documents patient data to ensure accurate scheduling of surgical/endoscopic cases and related appointments

  • Understands, documents and communicates special requests related to surgical/endoscopic procedures to the Surgical Scheduling Supervisor, Surgical Scheduling Team Lead or directly to the OR as appropriate

  • Identifies special circumstances that require intervention by additional resources or entities (ex: equipment or scheduling conflicts)

  • Confirms next day scheduled cases with providers’ offices and makes updates to schedule as needed

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

  • 2 Year/ Associate Degree in Medical Assistant or related field (preferred)

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in a health care related field (required)

  • Prior experience working in a healthcare environment (preferred)

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Medical terminology with knowledge of surgical procedures, good basic knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology

  • Use of electronic medical records/MS Word/Excel

  • Strong customer service skills including conflict resolution

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to problem-solve
