Office Location: Fort St John or Victoria
Salary: $50,438.85 - $56,792.24 – Temporary Full-Time, based on a 35-hour work week.
An additional 10.75% Job Family Market Multiplier will be added to the posted salary.
An additional 3% Location Allowance will be added to posted salary for northern location.
About the Job:
The Scanning Technician (Technician) provides hands-on operational support within the Records & Information Services business unit for a time-limited project. Under the direction of the Information Management Specialists, this role supports the digitization of BCER records by converting high volumes of paper files into accurate, quality verified digital records.
The Technician locates, prepares, and scans physical records in accordance with established procedures and timelines, and in some cases vetting responsive information for privacy or confidentiality in compliance with FOIPPA and organizational policy. This role is also responsible for maintaining the file system, and ensuring contents and location tracking is kept up to date and organized.
The Technician provides exceptional service by contributing to a high-volume, fast-paced environment by maintaining accuracy and keen attention to detail, following established standards, and handling confidential and sensitive information with care.

Scanning Technician
Digitize high volumes of paper records, ensuring scanned images are complete, legible, and meet established quality standards.
Prepare physical records for scanning by reviewing condition, preservation of original order, and following established scanning and document handling procedures.
Perform quality checks on scanned records to ensure completeness and accuracy, and re-scan or correct issues as required.
Identify and record required metadata (e.g.: title, date, author) and enter information accurately into recordkeeping systems.
Safeguard privacy and confidentiality by applying judgment when handling records, in accordance with FOIPPA and BCER information management policies and procedures.
Track and update the status of digitization work, ensuring records and locations are accurately recorded.
Respond to urgent or ad ‑hoc scanning and copying requests by organizing and prioritizing work and communicating timelines clearly.
Support the effective operation of the Records Centre by maintaining secure and well ‑organized storage and handling practices.
Perform other related duties as required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of office administrative experience.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience providing general office administrative support, with at least one year of experience.
Demonstrated experience following established standards and procedures, preferably in a records, scanning, or document management environment.
Demonstrated experience using tact and discretion, when handling confidential or sensitive information.
Demonstrated experience completing tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, competing priorities, and significant pressure.
Demonstrated experience organizing, prioritizing, and completing assigned tasks within established deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and follow standard procedures.
Demonstrated experience working in a customer service-focused environment and providing excellent service.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office 365 products.
Demonstrated experience using scanning equipment, including reproduction and imaging.
Preference may be given to those with:
Experience using commercial document scanning equipment.
Familiarity with Administrative Records Classification System (ARCS), Operational Records Classification System (ORCS) and records management best practices, and policies within the BC Public Service.
A general knowledge of the energy sector.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work full time in the office (this position is not eligible for hybrid work).
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and move boxes throughout the day.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
