Job Description

The Municipal Utilities department is looking for a permanent full-time Scale Operator to conduct the day-to-day scale operation, transfer station and recycling station operation, and provide support at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management.

Typical Duties Include:

  • Operate the landfill scale and record inbound and outbound vehicle weights, and collect disposal fees.
  • Greet and provide customer service to all users of the Clairmont Centre for Recycling & waste Management.
  • Control traffic entering and exiting the landfill.
  • Identify waste materials and screen for prohibited wastes and direct site users to appropriate disposal and storage locations.
  • Maintain account customer billing records and support monthly Accounts Receivable submissions and perform month-end cash consolidation.
  • Maintain the scale, scale house, landfill grounds, and equipment, including but not limited to cleaning and snow removal.
  • Assist customers in the Transfer/Recycling Station, including recycling awareness, hazardous waste identification, and directing users to appropriate disposal areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with records management requirements, County policy, and Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act legislation.
  • Other related duties include litter picking and occasional operations of equipment including transfer station and landfill face operations.

Qualifications

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Clean criminal records check and driver's abstract
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office software
  • Previous landfill experience is an asset
  • First Aid training an asset.
  • Ability to achieve Landfill Certification and/or Transfer Station Certification an asset.
  • Ability to effectively and courteously interact with waste haulers, the public and co-workers
  • Ability to work compressed work weeks including weekend work and overtime.
  • Ability to ensure all work-related information is kept confidential as per policy and in accordance with POPA and ATIA and comply with records management practices.

Shift Details: This full-time, permanent position entails a 40-hour work week, on a two-week rotation of shifts.

Hourly Rate: $34.24 to $40.28 per hour.
