The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing incoming and outgoing trucks, recording weight data, and ensuring compliance with weight regulations. This role involves operating the truck scale system, interacting with drivers, and maintaining accurate records of all transactions. The Scale Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining efficient logistics operations and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operate the truck scale system to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles
  • Verify truck and trailer information, including license plates and seal numbers
  • Record accurate weight data and generate weight tickets
  • Ensure compliance with weight regulations and company policies
  • Interact professionally with truck drivers and provide clear instructions
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the scale area
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of scale equipment and report any malfunctions
  • Enter data into computer systems and maintain accurate digital records
  • Assist in reconciling daily transactions and preparing reports
  • Monitor traffic flow in the scale area to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics, and other departments
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills and ability to operate scale software
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Basic math skills for weight calculations and reconciliations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role or in logistics/transportation
  • Familiarity with DOT weight regulations
  • Knowledge of agricultural or industrial products typically transported by truck
  • Experience with specific scale management software systems
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a scale house or office adjacent to the truck scales. The work environment may involve exposure to various weather conditions, as the operator may need to step outside to interact with drivers or inspect vehicles. The role requires sitting for extended periods while operating computer systems, with occasional standing and walking. Some physical activity may be required for scale maintenance or traffic control. The Truck Scale Operator must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with constant truck traffic. Shift work may be required, including potential evening, weekend, or holiday hours to accommodate 24/7 operations. Safety is a top priority, requiring awareness of truck movements and adherence to all safety protocols.
