Scaffold/Line Lift Technician

Position Summary

MISTRAS Group is seeking experienced Scaffold/Line Lift Technicians to support Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) operations at the Kuparuk River Unit on Alaska's North Slope.

The Scaffold/Line Lift Technician provides field leadership, coordinates daily activities, supports safe and productive work execution, and performs hands-on labor in support of CUI initiatives.

This position works closely with ConocoPhillips operators, CUI Leads, Inspectors, and Insulation Technicians. The Scaffold/Line Lift Technician also plays an important role in mentoring and developing Insulation Technicians, helping build their technical skills and knowledge in CUI, scaffolding, insulation, and line lift operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for crew safety, productivity, quality, task coordination, and effective communication while working in a demanding industrial environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide field leadership and coordinate daily tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and productive work execution.
• Perform asbestos abatement on process piping in compliance with applicable regulations.
• Complete and submit chain-of-custody documentation for all Regulated Asbestos-Containing Material (RACM), documenting material from generation through disposal in accordance with State of Alaska requirements.
• Complete and submit Daily Compliance Logs for each stripping activity as required by State of Alaska regulations.
• Erect and dismantle non-engineered Systems Scaffold.
• Build crib stacks, including 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, and crow's foot configurations, based on the Engineered Lift Form.
• Construct temporary support structures for line lifting and designated rest points.
• Perform line lifts using airbags, lift jacks, rigging, cranes, and other approved equipment in accordance with the applicable Lift Form.
• Maintain Operator Qualification (OQ) certification when required to perform line lifts, insulation removal/installation, or coating installation on DOT-regulated process piping.
• Work closely with ConocoPhillips operators, CUI Leads, Inspectors, and other contractors to coordinate daily work activities.
• Serve as a technical resource between the field crew and Inspector.
• Review project plans and schedules and ensure necessary tools, equipment, materials, and resources are available before work begins.
• Prioritize daily tasks and coordinate closely with the Inspector to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Monitor work progress, productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness using applicable tracking systems, including Job Impact Notifications (JINs).
• Identify opportunities to reduce workforce and equipment downtime, eliminate waste, and improve field efficiency.
• Mentor and support Insulation Technicians through on-the-job training, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
• Promote professional development and encourage teamwork among crew members.
• Promote and actively participate in company and client safety programs.
• Lead by example by recognizing hazards, implementing appropriate controls, and following all safety requirements.
• Maintain accountability for crew safety, productivity, and quality of work.
• Collaborate with HAK Inspectors to plan daily work scopes with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Work with contractors and client representatives to coordinate requirements for individual work scopes.
• Perform sheet metal and insulation fabrication, including T's, unequal T's, miters, gores, reducers, end caps, flange cans, mailbox fittings, wall flashing, and related components.
• Safely operate standard shop equipment.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the CUI Support Lead.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of NSTC (North Slope Training Cooperative) training.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• Minimum of 2 years of CUI experience in the oil and gas industry.
• North Slope experience preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of practical experience using hand and power tools.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a physically demanding position.
• Current Asbestos Abatement Certification through the State of Alaska.
• Current Building Inspector "AHERA" Certification through the State of Alaska.
• Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English.
• Ability to perform job duties while wearing a half-face or full-face respirator.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Preferred & Technical Qualifications

• Experience with sheet metal and insulation fabrication.
• Proficiency operating standard shop equipment.
• Experience with scaffolding systems and line lift operations.
• Experience working with airbags, lift jacks, rigging, and cranes.
• Current or previous Operator Qualification (OQ) certification applicable to the assigned work.
• Experience working with DOT-regulated process piping.
• Experience working directly with client representatives, inspectors, and contractors.
• Intermediate computer skills, including:
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft Outlook
• Online training platforms and other computer-based systems

• Ability to work at heights and around industrial equipment.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including a half-face or full-face respirator.
• Ability to safely perform assigned duties in varying weather and field conditions.
