Job Description

The SCADA/PLC/EMS Senior Expert Leader is responsible for leading all SCADA, PLC, EMS, and control system activities within the commissioning team. The role ensures successful planning, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of automation and energy management systems for power generation, transmission, distribution, or industrial projects.
This position provides technical leadership during pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, system validation, and handover phases, while coordinating with engineering, construction, operations, OEMs, and project stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant system performance.

1. Technical Leadership

•Lead commissioning activities related to SCADA, PLC, EMS, DCS, RTU, HMI, and communication systems.

•Act as the technical authority for automation and control systems during site execution and commissioning.

•Provide expert support for system architecture review, functional logic validation, signal checks, loop checks, interlocking verification, and performance testing.

•Ensure proper integration between SCADA, PLC, EMS, protection systems, field devices, and third-party systems.

•Review and validate control logic, I/O lists, communication mapping, cause-and-effect matrices, and testing procedures.

2. Commissioning Execution

•Plan, coordinate, and supervise commissioning activities for automation and control systems.

•Lead FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization support, and start-up activities.

•Execute and oversee point-to-point checks, loop testing, system interface checks, alarm verification, control function tests, and operational sequence validation.

•Troubleshoot system issues during commissioning and implement corrective actions in coordination with engineering and vendors.

•Support dynamic testing, performance validation, and reliability assessment of SCADA/PLC/EMS systems.

3. EMS and System Integration

•Lead EMS-related commissioning tasks, including monitoring, control functions, load management, energy optimization interfaces, and reporting systems.

•Ensure accurate data acquisition, system visibility, historian integration, command execution, and real-time monitoring functionality.

•Verify system communications between EMS/SCADA and substations, plant equipment, field controllers, and enterprise systems.

•Support integration of protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, DNP3, OPC, and other industrial communication standards.

4. Team Leadership and Coordination

•Lead and coordinate the SCADA/PLC/EMS commissioning team on site.

•Assign tasks, supervise technical work, and ensure commissioning activities are completed safely and efficiently.

•Act as the focal point between commissioning, engineering, construction, operations, and OEM/vendor teams.

•Support training, mentoring, and technical development of commissioning engineers and technicians.

•Provide regular progress updates, technical reports, punch list follow-up, and risk escalation to project leadership.

5. Quality, Safety, and Compliance

•Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, company procedures, cyber/security requirements, and applicable standards.

•Enforce safe systems of work during testing and energization activities.

•Ensure documentation, test records, as-built updates, and handover packages are complete and accurate.

•Participate in risk assessments, method statement reviews, and readiness reviews for commissioning milestones.

Support root cause analysis of commissioning failures, incidents, or performance deviations.

The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
