Job Description

Under minimal supervision, perform professional level work in planning, designing, programming, testing, documentation, and maintenance of complex computer systems, programs and applications for Power and Light. Primary responsibilities include the supervision of the SCADA Support staff who have the responsibilities for upgrading and maintaining the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system telemetry and field equipment/devices. Provide technical service and guidance in the development, design, testing, debugging, operation and maintenance of specialized computer systems utilized in System Operations. Schedule and manage projects and/or programs as required including: budgeting and planning computer system upgrades. Provide technical support to Operators in order to resolve problems with computer systems; provides training for users in use of applications. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology or a related field; and, seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Have a working knowledge of database management systems and Windows administration and operations. SCADA, Industrial Automation and Electric Utility experience highly preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. Must complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Real-time control/industrial automation systems, database development and HMI display development; electrical system operating practices and substation design; Specification preparation and enforcement; Programming languages C/C++ and Visual Basic; LAN/WAN data communications and networking; Skill in communicating clearly and effectively with others, both orally and in writing; organizing work, setting priorities to meet critical deadlines and following through on assignments with a minimum of direction. Able to compile analyze, and evaluate data; able to distinguish colors and good hearing.

Physical Demands: Frequently required to walk, sit, and kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk or hear, and occasionally lift and/or move up to approx. 10 lbs.

Typical Working Condition: Typically moderately quiet in a standard office environment. Must be able to work extended hours as necessary to provide operational effectiveness.
