SBN - Computer Systems Assistant - PTAMI

Reporting To: Computer Systems Officer


The Computer Systems Assistant works with a designated supervisor to ensure that the vessel’s computer and network systems are working efficiently and that they are well maintained. The role of the Computer Systems Assistant is mainly focused on supporting and maintaining all computers / network devices and peripherals which includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, cleaning, and upgrading equipment to ensure optional performance. The Computer Systems Assistant provides end user support and troubleshooting for our vessels where required.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Support

o Provide operational support for desktops, laptops, peripherals, mobile devices as well as user support.o Perform maintenance of servers and network infrastructure as assigned and instructed.o Perform routine repairs and maintenance of hardware.o Maintain the onboard IPTV System and its infrastructure, provide day-to-day operational support for the Broadcast Center and the satellite TV System.o Work with the Computer Systems Officer to plan, facilitate, and deploy software/hardware and upgrades. Perform other duties assigned by Senior IT Officer/IT Officer/Computer Systems Officer.o Monitor the health of the onboard IT systems.o Assist with set-up, tear-down, and troubleshooting of embarkation check-in workstations and equipment.o Manage onboard IT inventory as directed by the Computer Systems Officer.o Assist with receiving, tracking and off-loading all IT-related equipment on and off the vessel.o Assist with daily, weekly, monthly checklist tasks as instructed by the Computer Systems Officer.o Submit a weekly status report to the Computer Systems Officer.o Create a hand-over report for the incoming Computer Systems Assistant.

o Desktop, laptop, tablets, printers, scanners and other peripheralso VMware virtual infrastructure o Backup and monitoring systemso Satellite infrastructure (TVRO and VSAT)o CCTV and IPTV systemso Guest and crew digital systemso Specialized marine, technical & hotel department systems

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Experience

o Shipboard experience working as IT Officer, Assistant IT Officer, Systems Manager, Assistant Systems Manager, Computer Systems Officer or equivalent shoreside experience as a System Administrator.o Must have a C1/D visa.

Technical skills

o Must have strong abilities to troubleshoot hardware, software, desktops, laptops and printerso Must have Windows Desktop OS support skillso Must understand fiber and copper UTP wiring for Local Area Networkso Required:o Cisco Systems network equipment: Switches, Wireless Access Points/Wireless Controllero Microsoft products, Exchange administrationo Backup system software i.e.: Veritaso Anti-Virus system i.e.: Symantec, McAfeeo Microsoft SQL and Oracle skills desirable.Preferred:o PaloAlto firewallso Fidelio and Micros / Simphonyo Satellite Systems (VSAT, TVRO, C-band, Ku Band, Iridium, MTN)

Soft Skills / Leadership

o Excellent written, oral communication and presentational skills in Englisho Good organization, time management and prioritization skillso Great customer service and interpersonal skills

Certifications:


o CompTIA A + and CompTIA Network+ Certificates or equivalent experience required
o Microsoft MCSA / CompTIA Server+ / Cisco CCNA / VMWare certification preferred
