Job Description

Satellite Systems Engineer

About Satellogic

Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.

We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.

Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.

With a team distributed across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.

About the team

The Satellite Program Team is a cross-functional organization that manages the strategic deployment and continuous evolution of our entire satellite fleet. They drive the full end-to-end mission lifecycle, from setting high-level strategic objectives and negotiating overall system requirements to overseeing long-term on-orbit performance and capacity goals. This team serves as the central function for balancing constraints across R&D, Manufacturing, and Operations.

About the position

This is not your traditional, paper-pushing systems engineering role. This is a highly technical, hybrid mission that sits at the intersection of robust hardware design and agile software architecture.

Your challenge is twofold:

  1. Optimize & Protect: Dive deep into the current generation of satellites, resolving complex technical anomalies on orbit.
  2. Architect the Future: Spearhead the system architecture for our next generation of spacecraft.

You will be the ultimate technical "bridge," ensuring that low-level engineering details across software, electronics, and mechanics are scalable, robust, and perfectly aligned with our mission.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Technical Budget Management: Maintain and optimize system-level budgets, including Mass, Power, Propulsion, Link Budget, Data Latency, Pointing Performance, Agility, Image Quality, and Edge Processing Capacity, ensuring optimal balance between performance and risk.
  • Next generation Architecture: Co-define and design the systems architecture for future satellite constellations.
  • Lifecycle Leadership: Oversee system-level integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) activities from conceptual design through to on-orbit commissioning.
  • Requirements Definition & CONOPS Translation: Interpret mission specific and spacecraft system level requirements based on the Concept of Operations
  • System Optimization & Problem Solving: Identify technical gaps and critical points in the current satellite generation. Manage anomaly resolution and ensure "lessons learned" are effectively integrated into the next designs.
  • Low-Level Technical Interface: Serve as the primary technical authority for R&D teams (Software, Electronics, Mechanics). Translate high-level operational requirements into granular technical specifications, APIs, and hardware-software interfaces.
