This role operates as the single point of accountability for release governance, coordinating releases across multiple SAP and integrated platforms including SAP ERP (S/4HANA), Payroll (UKG), Finance, SAP BASIS, and associated integration and platform services.

A core accountability of the role is the development and ongoing management of a rolling 24‑month Release Management Plan, providing the customer with clear visibility of planned releases, upgrade cycles, maintenance windows, and project deployments, ensuring alignment with business priorities and minimising risk and disruption.

Key Responsibilities

Release Strategy & Forward Planning

  • Develop, own, and maintain a rolling 24‑month SAP Release Management Roadmap, covering:

    • SAP S/4HANA Cloud releases and upgrades

    • BAU / AMS change releases

    • Payroll (UKG) update cycles

    • Finance and regulatory-driven releases

    • Project deployment milestones

  • Articulate the release strategy and roadmap to customer stakeholders, ensuring transparency of what releases are being managed, when, and why.

  • Align release planning with SAP Cloud release calendars, business cycles, payroll cut‑offs, statutory deadlines, and agreed change windows.

End‑to‑End Release Governance

  • Act as the overall Release Authority across SAP environments (DEV, QA, Pre‑Prod, PROD).

  • Define and enforce release governance standards, including:

    • Release scope control

    • Cutover and deployment readiness

    • Risk assessment and dependency management

    • Go / No‑Go decision processes

  • Chair or contribute to Change Advisory Boards (CABs) and release governance forums, representing release readiness and risk.

Cross‑Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate releases across multiple SAP and non‑SAP functions, including:

    • SAP Functional Streams (ERP, Finance, HCM)

    • Payroll platforms (UKG)

    • SAP BASIS and Infrastructure teams

    • AMS delivery teams

    • Project delivery teams and system integrators

  • Manage dual‑track release models, ensuring BAU AMS releases continue safely alongside major project implementations.

AMS & Project Release Integration

  • Integrate AMS release cycles with project delivery pipelines to:

    • Avoid schedule conflicts

    • Control transport sequencing

    • Protect production stability

  • Ensure clear separation and governance of:

    • Standard BAU changes

    • Emergency fixes

    • Project-driven functionality

  • Maintain unified release calendars and deployment schedules across all delivery streams.

Cutover, Deployment & Assurance

  • Lead and coordinate:

    • Release cutover planning and dry‑runs

    • Transport sequencing and approvals

    • Release validation and post‑deployment verification

  • Ensure operational readiness of support teams prior to production releases.

  • Oversee post‑release reviews and continuous improvement actions.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

  • Provide clear, customer‑facing reporting on:

    • Upcoming releases

    • Release status and risks

    • Change volume and trends

    • Forward release outlook (12–24 months)

  • Translate technical release information into business‑impact language for executives and senior stakeholders.

Act as a trusted advisor to the customer on release cadence, timing, and risk trade‑offs.
