Role: SAP Integrations Architect
Location: Pune (Hybrid)

Smith & Nephew (S+N) is a large multinational Medical Technology organization with an extensive Enterprise Applications ecosystem to run end-to-end business operations. ERPs form the core of this ecosystem and are tightly integrated with best-in-class systems such as Salesforce, Windchill, Movemedical, Maestro, Ariba, Workday and many more. At S+N, SAP serves as our primary and strategic ERP platform, running 80% of our operations and revenue. We are seeking an SAP Integrations Architect to define integration architecture and govern integration platforms, while supporting and preparing for our strategic transition to SAP S/4HANA. Therefore, this role is both strategic and pivotal, playing a key part in enabling Smith & Nephew's digital transformation and continued growth over the coming years. The SAP Integrations Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing integration solutions across SAP and non-SAP systems. This role ensures seamless data flow, scalability, performance, and security of enterprise integrations aligned with business and IT strategies.
What will you be doing?
- Define enterprise integration architecture aligned with SAP roadmap (SAP ECC, S/4HANA, SAP BTP etc.).
- Collaborate with business, functional, and technical stakeholders and translate business requirements into integration architecture designs.
- Lead Integration architecture review boards and design approvals.
- Develop integration patterns, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Design hybrid and cloud integration strategies (SAP CPI, API Management, Event Mesh).
- Lead system integration architecture across SAP and third-party applications.
- Design end-to-end integration solutions using: SAP PI/PO (Process Integration/Orchestration) SAP BTP Integration Suite (CPI, API Management, Open Connectors).
- Define message formats (IDoc, XML, JSON, OData, REST, SOAP).
- Architect real-time, batch, and event-driven integrations.
- Enable third-party integrations (CRM, legacy systems, cloud platforms).
- Design APIs and microservices for enterprise-level integration.
- Define integration standards, naming conventions, and reuse frameworks.
- Establish monitoring, logging, and error-handling standards.
- Ensure integration scalability, high availability, and performance optimization.
- Implement security protocols (OAuth, SAML, certificates, encryption).
- Provide guidance during implementation and production support.
- Troubleshoot complex integration issues and Lead root-cause analysis and performance tuning.
- Participates in SAP related projects (releases and/or rollouts) and conducts requirement gathering, fit/gap analysis, design and build activities.
- Performs L3 support for live countries. Ensures solution consistency and assists in facilitating the change leadership interventions within functional areas and contributes to the Design Authority process by assessing impact of the new requests on the core solution.
- Focus on continuous improvement, keeping up with industry and proactively advising the business of new capabilities that can help them support the company’s growth and strategy.
What will you need to be successful?
- Education: Bachelor’s / Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, IT or related subject preferred.
- Licenses/ Certifications:
- SAP certification: SAP Certified Development / Integration certifications (SAP CPI, BTP etc.)
- TOGAF or equivalent architecture certification
- ITIL Qualifications - Experience: At least 10 years of IT experience, with 8+ years in SAP integration.
- This role will be based in Pune and will be 2 days working from office in Hybrid mode. Shift Timing (12:30 PM – 9:30 PM IST) Monday to Friday.
- Strong expertise in SAP PI/PO, SAP BTP Integration Suite (CPI, API Mgmt), IDocs, RFC, Proxy, OData services.
- Hands-on experience with S/4HANA transformation programs and Experience in cloud integration and API-led architecture is advantageous.
- Experience in a full cycle of an ERP implementation based on a core solution and multi-country deployment.
- Experience in information systems, applications - including SAP (SD, MM, WM, PP, and FI/CO), and project management, preferably in regulated life science industry.
- Functional knowledge within functional area of SAP ECC6 EHP-7 (or later) is a must, experience of HANA preferred. Experience in SAP BASIS/ABAP would be a plus.
- Working experience in other MWs (BOOMI/SOA etc.) would be a plus. Experience in a regulated industry and/or medical device company preferred. Large transformational projects.
- Strong vendor and stakeholder management capabilities. Solid functional and technical expertise in SAP business processes and operating models.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed, cross-cultural teams. Working knowledge of Java and/or ABAP programming.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
