Job Description

The SAP HR Business Analyst (Payroll) acts as a senior functional interface between the Customer’s HR and Payroll stakeholders and the AMS team. The role owns requirement quality, functional integrity, and alignment between business and AMS delivery within the SAP On-Premise Payroll ecosystem.

The ideal candidate brings deep payroll domain expertise spanning payroll processing, statutory compliance, leave integration, and payroll controls. This role does not involve system configuration or development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Business Analysis

• Act as the primary functional partner to HR and Payroll stakeholders, engaging across payroll operations and finance to understand process gaps, compliance requirements, and enhancement needs.

• Bring structure to ambiguous requirements and challenge inputs to ensure completeness, feasibility, and alignment with system capabilities.

2. Requirement Definition & Functional Documentation

• Own end-to-end requirement analysis for payroll incidents, enhancements, and change requests.

• Prepare clear, structured functional specifications for AMS consumption, ensuring traceability between business needs and delivered solutions.

3. AMS Coordination & Functional Governance

• Serve as the single point of contact for all functional interactions with the AMS team on payroll matters.

• Facilitate resolution of ambiguities around payroll calculation logic, off-cycle runs, and statutory reporting, and drive closure of incidents through effective follow-ups.

4. Functional Testing & Validation

• Own functional validation of all delivered payroll changes, including parallel run validation where applicable.

• Design and execute test scenarios, manage test data covering payroll inputs and statutory figures, and coordinate defect resolution with the AMS team.

5. UAT Support & Business Enablement

• Support HR and Payroll stakeholders through UAT, guiding test execution and ensuring structured sign-off from payroll operations.

6. Continuous Improvement & Functional Advisory

• Identify recurring payroll issues and recommend functional improvements within the SAP Payroll landscape.

• Provide advisory inputs on system capabilities, statutory compliance, and best practices to improve requirement quality and AMS effectiveness.

Requirements

Key Accountabilities:

• High-quality, complete, and actionable payroll requirements provided to the AMS team.

• Delivered solutions that are functionally accurate, payroll-compliant, and aligned with business expectations.

• Clear communication and alignment between HR/Payroll stakeholders and AMS consultants.

• Functional quality control and validation across all payroll changes and enhancements.

Scope & Boundaries:

• Not responsible for system configuration, development, or technical delivery.

• Not accountable for AMS delivery execution timelines.

• Focused on requirement quality, functional clarity, and validation only.

Skills & Experience:

• Strong hands-on experience in SAP On-Premise Payroll (HCM), including payroll schema, wage types, retro calculations, off-cycle processing, and year-end activities.

• Working knowledge of local statutory payroll requirements relevant to the country of deployment (e.g. CPF, IR8A, NS Make-Up Pay).

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst in AMS or support environments, with strong requirement gathering and functional documentation skills.

• Strong stakeholder management skills and experience in functional testing, UAT coordination, and defect management.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Deep payroll domain expertise with the ability to independently assess the functional impact of system changes on payroll outcomes.

• Takes ownership of requirement clarity and quality; able to challenge stakeholders constructively on complex payroll scenarios.

• Structured, detail-oriented, and focused on ensuring business intent is fully realised in delivered solutions.
