Sanctions Compliance Officer plays a key role in safeguarding the bank against sanctions and financial crime risks by providing independent oversight, expert advice, and decision-making on complex cases. The role involves reviewing sanctions escalations, supporting high-risk customer onboarding and ongoing monitoring, and making informed decisions on potential sanctions breaches, including reporting to relevant authorities. Additionally, the role supports effective risk management by advising on complex cases, monitoring regulatory changes, and driving continuous improvement in AML/CFT and sanctions practices across the organization.
Independently review and make decisions on Sanctions risk-related escalations received from other bank units (First Line of Defence)
Prepare and submit reports on Sanctions-related suspicious transactions and activities to National Competent Authorities, and recommend risk-mitigating actions to be applied to reported customers
Escalate specific Sanctions risk-related cases to the Group AML/CFT and Sanctions Compliance Officer or Sanctions Area Lead, as defined in internal regulations
Participate in Customer Risk Committees and provide Compliance opinions on clients’ risk exposure and required risk mitigation measures
Perform self-quality assurance and control testing activities, ensuring that processes and controls in the Sanctions area are properly designed and operationally effective
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Sanctions-specific training program, and deliver training to relevant stakeholders
Monitor changes in Sanctions regimes and regulatory requirements applicable to the Bank (including developments in national, European Union, United Nations, United States, and United Kingdom sanctions), as well as sanctions-related market trends and typologies, evaluate their application, and prepare proposals for process improvements
Contribute to the development of Sanctions-related controls, and propose development or change requests for systems and tools
Contribute to a positive working environment by taking a constructive approach in cooperation with colleagues, providing honest feedback and relevant suggestions, and supporting high performance within the unit
Perform other tasks relevant to the role
2+ years of experience in years in Sanctions area. Certification in Sanctions (CGSS or similar) area would be considered as an advantage
Profound awareness of Baltic and European regulatory requirements related to banking and financial services in general
Strong knowledge of OFAC, UKHMT, UNSC, EU and national sanctions regimes and respective reporting requirements
Strong knowledge and experience of best practices in managing AML/CFT/CFP and Sanctions risks associated with the bank business model
High understanding of ML/TF/PF and Sanctions typologies
Strong business process management skills with an initiative to learn quickly new tasks
Thoroughness, accuracy and accountability with analytical thinking and ability to make decisions in an organized and structured working style
Good cross-functional and cross border cooperation skills having good communication and presentation skills, both verbal and writing
Impeccable reputation, high integrity and ethical standards
Higher education in Law, Economics, Business Management, Finance or similar field
Fluent English and Lithuanian is required in spoken and written communication due to working on the Pan-Baltic level
