Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Under the general supervision of the Survey/Sample Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for high-quality assay sampling and timely delivery of samples while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
This position is based out of Round Mountain, NV. The schedule is 8 days on, 6 days off, 10-hour days.
1. Effectively report to Tech Services Department to ensure that quality standards of sampling are maintained.
2. Sampling includes use of shovel, other sampling equipment and mobile equipment.
3. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
4. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
5. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
6. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
7. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
8. Help the department personnel to perform duties listed above.
9. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
1. Must be self-motivated, able to look around and find work that needs to be done without having to be instructed.
2. General understanding of mining operations.
3. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
5. Experience in working safely near moving equipment is preferred.
6. Experience in driving on pit ramps preferred.
7. Must be fit to wear a respirator.
8. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
9. Able to shovel and lift full sample bags weighing up to 20 pounds.
10. Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database.
11. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
12. Requires valid driver’s license.
