In this role, you will manage and grow selected accounts across a hospital territory in Johannesburg, promoting Medtronic Medical Surgical solutions across a range of complex procedures, including bariatric, colorectal, advanced energy, and hysteroscopic tissue removal. You will combine strong commercial acumen with hands-on clinical support, providing procedural assistance when needed and ensuring customers receive consistent product, clinical, and workflow expertise throughout the territory.
Reporting directly to the Sales Manager, this role requires regular travel across the Gauteng North hospital territory.
Responsibilities may include the following, and other duties may be assigned:
- Drive the promotion and sale of Medtronic Medical Surgical solutions across hospitals in the Gauteng North territory, consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Provide direct in-theatre support during Medical Surgical procedures when required, delivering product, technical, and workflow guidance to clinical teams in complex cases, including general surgery, bariatric, colorectal, advanced energy, and hysteroscopic tissue removal procedures.
- Take ownership of procedure support within the territory as needed, working closely with relevant clinical and technical support teams to coordinate coverage and drive adoption of Medical Surgical solutions, including capital equipment such as electrosurgical generator systems, smoke evacuation platforms, energy-based surgical systems, and hysteroscopic tissue removal systems.
- Build and expand strategic relationships with surgeons, theatre staff, hospital decision-makers, and procurement stakeholders to support account plans, improve access, and deliver sustainable territory growth.
- Deliver product education, clinical in-servicing, and solution-based presentations to customers, while supporting evaluations, conversions, and the implementation of Medical Surgical technologies within assigned accounts.
- Collaborate closely with Sales Representative colleagues across the wider Medtronic Medical Surgical portfolio in shared accounts, aligning priorities and opportunity plans to maximise growth.
- Maintain accurate forecasts and sales projections based on opportunities, customer trends, market share data, territory plans, pipeline activity, and engagement records in SFDC (or the agreed CRM), while monitoring market developments and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Relevant sales and/or clinical support experience in the medical device industry, including Medical Surgical sales exposure in complex procedures such as bariatric, colorectal, advanced energy, and hysteroscopic tissue removal. Experience with capital equipment is highly desirable, including electrosurgical generator systems, smoke evacuation platforms, energy-based surgical systems, hysteroscopic tissue removal systems, and other Medical Surgical capital technologies.
- Professional fluency in the required local language(s) and in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and communication skills, with the ability to influence multiple decision-makers.
- A collaborative team player with strong negotiation skills and the ability to work cross-functionally work with sales representatives, SAM, SME, and capital partners.
- Ability to work independently, manage territory priorities effectively, and travel regularly.
- A valid, clean driver’s licence, as required for the territory.
A clinical and/or technical background is valued, as is prior experience working in the operating room environment.
