Lumber Sales Representative

Build markets. Strengthen partnerships. Create value from the mill to the customer.

Location: Pacific Northwest | Reports to: Vice President of Sales and Marketing | Travel: Approximately monthly, plus key industry events

The Opportunity

Stimson Lumber Company is looking for a commercially minded sales professional who enjoys building relationships, reading markets, and turning changing conditions into opportunity. In this role, you will represent a broad portfolio of lumber products, manage strategic customer relationships, and help shape how available production is positioned across distributors, retail lumber yards, wholesalers, and remanufacturing customers.

This is more than an order-taking role. You will have meaningful ownership of accounts, pricing conversations, market development, and sales strategy. The right candidate brings curiosity, sound judgment, an entrepreneurial approach, and the confidence to make decisions in a fast-moving commodity market.

What You Will Own

  • Grow and strengthen a portfolio of established and prospective customers, including multi-location accounts.
  • Develop trusted, long-term partnerships by understanding each customer’s business, supply needs, market position, and growth priorities.
  • Sell Stimson’s lumber portfolio through proactive daily outreach, disciplined follow-up, and responsive account service.
  • Quote and negotiate pricing based on market conditions, product availability, freight, customer strategy, and targeted returns.
  • Match customer demand with mill production and available inventory to maximize value and improve product flow.
  • Use market intelligence, customer feedback, and sales data to identify emerging opportunities, risks, and shifts in demand.
  • Build forward-looking account and market plans that support both short-term execution and long-term growth.
  • Partner with manufacturing, logistics, finance, and sales colleagues to create realistic commitments and reliable customer solutions.
  • Represent Stimson at customer meetings, industry events, association gatherings, and other market-facing activities.
  • Contribute ideas that improve sales processes, customer experience, market visibility, and commercial performance.

What Success Looks Like

  • Customers view you as a knowledgeable, responsive, and credible business partner.
  • Account relationships deepen, new opportunities are developed, and Stimson’s market reach expands.
  • Pricing and product decisions balance customer value with strong returns for Stimson’s mills.
  • Inventory moves thoughtfully and efficiently across changing market conditions.
  • Internal partners have clear market insight and confidence in sales commitments.
  • You bring energy, accountability, and continuous improvement to the commercial team.

What You Bring

  • Practical knowledge of lumber products, lumber markets, and the dynamics of commodity sales. Lumber industry experience is strongly preferred and is the highest-priority qualification.
  • Approximately five or more years of successful business-to-business sales, strategic account management, or related commercial experience, ideally in wood products, building materials, or manufacturing.
  • A track record of building customer trust, negotiating effectively, and understanding the financial impact of sales decisions.
  • Comfort working with pricing, margins, inventory, freight, supply chain considerations, and changing market signals.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the initiative to pursue opportunities and the judgment to manage risk.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills in a lean, fast-paced team environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing, business, or a related field is preferred. Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel approximately once per month, including several annual industry events.
