Job Description

Milacron is looking for a Sales Project Engineer (Rebuild, Retrofit & Modernization Services) to join our team in Querétaro, Mexico. In this position, you will be responsible for executing, coordinating, and validating retrofit, rebuild, overhaul, and modernization projects for plastic injection molding machines, ensuring improvements in performance, reliability, energy efficiency, safety, equipment lifespan, and operational availability through technical diagnostics, solution engineering, project management, commissioning, and customer support.
Work You’ll Do:
• Lead and coordinate retrofit, rebuild, overhaul, and modernization projects for injection molding equipment.
• Perform comprehensive machine assessments, including mechanical wear, electrical obsolescence, hydraulic failures, and automation deficiencies.
• Define technical project scope in collaboration with Sales, Engineering, Service teams, and customers.
• Develop project timelines, assign technical resources, and coordinate field service engineers and independent service providers (ISPs).
• Prepare technical service quotations, including labor, materials, travel expenses, and project schedules.
• Oversee commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, process parameter validation, machine safety verification, and customer acceptance activities.
• Monitor project budgets, costs, billing reports, and overall project profitability.
• Support customers through technical consultations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and post-installation follow-up.
• Collaborate with the Aftermarket Sales team to develop modernization, retrofit, and rebuild opportunities.
• Ensure accurate project documentation, including engineering changes, spare parts lists, drawings, lessons learned, and service reports.
• Maintain digital project records and leverage modern diagnostic tools, IIoT connectivity, and data traceability solutions.
• Supervise daily activities of service technicians and contractors to ensure customer expectations, safety standards, and project objectives are achieved.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Control/Automation Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Technical Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, or related discipline accepted.
• 2-4+ years of experience in a similar technical project, service engineering, or aftermarket role.
• Experience managing technical personnel and coordinating field service teams.
• Demonstrated experience with plastic injection molding processes and machinery.
• Proven experience in retrofit, rebuild, revamping, overhaul, modernization, or commissioning projects for injection molding equipment.
• Intermediate to Advanced English proficiency with the ability to read OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
• Strong customer service and technical sales support experience.
• Full-time availability.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with multi-brand injection molding machines and various automation platforms.
• Background in energy efficiency projects, functional safety initiatives, or control system modernization programs.
• Experience integrating PLCs, HMIs, drives, industrial networks, and IIoT connectivity solutions.
Technical Competencies:
• Plastic injection molding processes and machine operation.
• Industrial mechanical systems, including clamping units, injection units, screws, barrels, pumps, and valves.
• Hydraulics, pneumatics, servo systems, and motion control technologies.
• Industrial electrical systems, automation, and controls.
• PLC, HMI, drive migrations, wiring, I/O systems, industrial communications, and network integration.
• Interpretation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
• FAT/SAT execution, commissioning, process optimization, and customer training.
• Industrial safety, regulatory compliance, and functional safety practices.
• Root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective action development.
• Cost analysis, project budgeting, and project control.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Reduction of machine downtime versus project baseline.
• Compliance with technical scope, schedule, and project budget.
• Successful first-time machine startups and commissioning.
• Improvement in OEE, machine availability, and energy consumption metrics.
• Reduction in recurring equipment failures.
• Customer satisfaction following project completion.
• Timely and accurate project documentation closure.
