Job Duties

For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K-12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a hourly Sales Merchandiser for the areas of Frederick, Warren, Page, Rockingham and Greene counties.

The Sales Merchandiser’s main responsibility will be supporting sales by filling and maintaining Lottery vending machines, replacing and maintaining counter dispensers, slotting new games during launch periods, assisting in special projects and other various tasks as assigned. Other duties may include assisting special distribution projects and occasional weekend events. Work closely with the Area Manager and Sales Representatives to accomplish the sales and distribution goals of the sales area.

This is an hourly position without benefits. Less than 30 hours per week, but may vary based on business need. Weekend work is required. Additionally, a state vehicle is provided including gas.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be able to work independently with low levels of supervision. Possess strong interpersonal communication skills, organizational skills and time management skills; present a professional and engaging personality; good math skills. On occasion, may be required to work a 12 hour day, be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs., and use common household tools. Travel and weekend work required. The successful candidate must be willing to travel within a wide radius of the Harrisonburg sales area.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of route sales, consumer package goods industry, and experience working in the convenience store, mass merchandiser and/or grocery environment preferred. Route experience preferred.

Virginia has 13 electoral votes in presidential elections, and possesses 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
