Job Description: Sales Floor Associate / Shipping, Receiving & Signage Associate

Position Title: Sales Floor Associate

Reports To: Store Manager or Assistant Manager

Position Summary

The Sales Floor Associate / Shipping, Receiving & Signage Associate serves a dual role within the hardware store, providing exceptional customer service on the sales floor while also supporting inventory management, receiving operations, and store signage. This position helps ensure customers have a positive shopping experience by maintaining product availability, accurate pricing, organized displays, and efficient inventory flow throughout the store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Floor Responsibilities

• Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional manner.
• Provide product knowledge and recommendations for hardware, tools, paint, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, and other store merchandise.
• Help customers locate products and answer questions regarding product features and applications.
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked sales areas.
• Build and maintain promotional displays and endcaps.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs.
• Support cashiers and other departments as needed.
• Promote store programs, services, and special promotions.
• Resolve customer concerns and escalate issues when necessary.

Shipping & Receiving Responsibilities

• Receive, unload, and verify incoming merchandise against packing slips and purchase orders.
• Inspect shipments for accuracy and damage.
• Process and organize inventory for stocking and storage.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, counts, and report discrepancies.
• Prepare merchandise transfers, returns, and outgoing shipments.
• Operate material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Keep receiving, warehouse, and storage areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.

Signage Responsibilities

• Create, print, and install pricing, promotional, and informational signage throughout the store.
• Ensure price tags and shelf labels are accurate and up to date.
• Support seasonal resets, promotional events, and merchandising projects.
• Monitor signage for consistency, readability, and compliance with company standards.
• Remove outdated signs and replace damaged signage promptly.

Qualifications: Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous retail, warehouse, receiving, or hardware experience preferred.
• General knowledge of hardware, home improvement, or building materials is beneficial.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer and inventory management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout an entire shift.
• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift greater weights with assistance.
• Ability to safely operate ladders, pallet jacks, carts, forklift, and other store equipment.
• Work in both customer-facing and warehouse environments.
• Work in inclement Montana weather
