QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • Three (3) years of outside sales experience in ocean transportation, or a combination of outside sales, with inside sales and/or customer service in the industry.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English at an advanced level.
  • Intermediate Computer skills (in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Clean and current Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
  • Employee must be able to operate own vehicle or have access to reliable transportation to perform the job function of visiting the customer’s worksite.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Possess strong organization and time-management skills. Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast- paced environment.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, holidays and/or weekends.
  • Flexibility to attend Conferences, Trade Shows, visit specific customers, as may be required.
  • Ability to travel domestically frequently/daily and overseas as deemed necessary by sales management.
Preferred
· Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish at an intermediate-advanced level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
  • Must visit customers at the customer’s designated sites to effectively secure the customer’s business relationships.
  • Develop a viable account base with a focus on maintaining and generating business for all Seaboard Marine services.
  • Foster strong business relationships and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Plan and manage a regular contact cycle maximizing effectiveness through proper geographical identification of accounts. This will include the daily reporting of all planned/effected visits and calls, meeting a minimum number of activities as required by sales management.
  • Collaborate with and oversee the overall performance of assigned accounts to garner maximum participation.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer records updated according to Sales Standards and Procedures (i.e. account profiles, corporate and sales hierarchy, contact information, etc.).
  • To generate sales leads and other pertinent information on both existing and new business. Likewise, responsible for responding to incoming sales leads for assigned accounts/territories based on time criteria set by sales management.
  • To utilize all designated resources and tools in the daily job functions (i.e. Stars Tariff Retrieval System, Sales & Marketing Revenue Reports, Trade Database, etc.).
  • Keep abreast of tariff changes, including new regulations and changes in rate applicability. To maintain a constant and proactive line of communication with the Pricing Staff on related issues.
  • To maintain proper and accurate expense records of customer entertainment and business travel in compliance with company policies.
  • To properly manage all service contracts under the assigned portfolio and process renewals based on time criteria set by sales management.
  • To attend department meetings, industry-related events, and meetings with customers on a regular and/or daily basis, representing SML in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a constant and regular line of communication with the appropriate regional and overseas offices in the development of new business and/or problem resolution, ensuring that all business objectives are met.
  • To keep Sales leadership properly informed of any issues concerning the area of responsibility. To provide any necessary support as directed by sales management.
Secondary
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use his fingers.
  • The employee must drive during daylight and evening hours continuously on streets and highways.
  • The employee must be able to travel via airplane, train, and other modes of transportation occasionally.
  • The employee is continuously required to talk and/or hear.
  • The employee is continuously required to sit, stand, or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Southeast Regional Sales Manager. Does not exercise supervision over any position but may request the assistance of office/clerical staff.

CONDITIONS:
  • Indoor office environment (30%). Exposure to outdoor environments during local and domestic travel for client visits and meetings (70%).
  • Exposed to non-controlled temperature and office environment-controlled temperature intermittently during the day.
