Job Description

Job Title

Sales Consultant

Together with the Director of Sales, you will make an important contribution to sales success during the pre-contract phase of a project. Your responsibilities include identifying customer needs, developing and evaluating the appropriate logistics solutions, leading the preparation of sales proposals, and presenting these solutions to customers. In collaboration with the Sales Manager and the Sales Engineering team, you will build and maintain constructive working relationships with customers while defining the appropriate sales strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify the customer’s automation needs and corresponding process requirements.
  • Design conceptual solutions based on throughput data, process analysis, critical business drivers, technical requirements, and the customer’s business case for medium to large-scale projects.
  • Convert conceptual solutions into system designs and associated high-level process designs.
  • Use analytical insight and experience to identify key aspects of proposed concepts and their impact on operations.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously. Projects for major global e-commerce clients typically involve collaborative teamwork, with multiple sales roles working together to deliver comprehensive system quotations within tight timelines.
  • Lead the conceptual solution development during the Joint Design phase of projects in collaboration with the bid manager and sales team.
  • Maintain project KPIs established by key clients and internal stakeholders during the quotation (tender) phase.
  • Support and maintain the integrity of conceptual designs throughout detailed engineering, system implementation, and system operation in collaboration with colleagues located in Veghel, Mönchengladbach, Seattle, and Marietta.
  • Contribute to the accurate development and validation of sales pricing for projects of varying size and complexity in collaboration with the project team.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Logistics, or a related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong systems design knowledge; experience designing material handling systems for warehousing or parcel operations is preferred.
  • Analytical ability to structure and solve logistics problems and interpret relevant information from multiple sources.
  • Strong sales acumen and the ability to incorporate pricing considerations into design strategies.
  • Excellent influencing skills both internally and when working with customers at the senior management level.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional customer relationships.
  • Experience training, coaching, and leading sales engineers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial, international organization, often collaborating across organizational, geographic, and cultural boundaries.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 5–10% of the time).

About Vanderlande

Vanderlande is a market-leading, global partner for future-proof logistic process automation in the warehousing, airports and parcel sectors. Its extensive portfolio of integrated solutions – innovative systems, intelligent software and life-cycle services – results in the realisation of fast, reliable and efficient automation technology.

The company focuses on the optimisation of its customers’ business processes and competitive positions. Through close cooperation, it strives for the improvement of their operational activities and the expansion of their logistical achievements.

Established in 1949, Vanderlande has more than 11,000 employees and a turnover of 2.3 billion euros.

Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) acquired Vanderlande in 2017 to cement its global leading position within material handling. It aims to achieve this by increasing its presence in all integrated and automated projects, and capitalising on the synergies between the organisations and the added value they offer to the market.

TICO therefore launched the Toyota Automated Logistics Group (TALG), which consists of Toyota L&F, Bastian Solutions, Vanderlande and viastore. TALG is a global partner for integrated logistic process automation, with its group companies collaborating under the guiding principle: for every challenge, a reliable solution.

In May 2025, Vanderlande completed the acquisition of Siemens Logistics' operations outside the USA and in doing so welcomed more than 2,000 new employees. The acquisition supports the company’s strategic ambition to accelerate its growth in automated logistics, particularly strengthening its capacity to deliver baggage, cargo and digital airport solutions.
