
We are seeking motivated and customer-oriented individuals to join our team as Temporary Sales Associates at the MPR Booth during the Minnesota State Fair. As a Sales Associate, you will play a key role in promoting and selling merchandise, engaging with fairgoers, and providing exceptional customer service. This is a temporary position that requires availability during the Minnesota State Fair, August 27-September 7, 2026.
*This is a temporary role and will last for three months.
Expected Compensation Range: $18-$20 per hr.
Location: On-site

Responsibilities:
1. Sales and Merchandising: Assist in the sale of MPR merchandise, including apparel, accessories, and promotional items. Provide product information, make recommendations, and ensure attractive merchandise displays to enhance sales.
2. Customer Service: Greet customers in a friendly and welcoming manner. Offer assistance, answer questions, and provide knowledgeable information about MPR programs, events, and initiatives. Address customer concerns and resolve complaints in a professional manner.
3. POS: Process transactions accurately using POS system. Handle credit card, and mobile payment transactions with attention to detail. Maintain accurate records of sales and reconcile daily transactions at the end of each day.
4. Booth Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the booth at all times. Arrange merchandise, restock inventory, and maintain a visually appealing display. Monitor stock levels and communicate with the supervisor to restock merchandise as needed.
5. Promotional Activities: Actively engage with fairgoers to promote MPR programs and membership opportunities. Distribute promotional materials. Encourage fairgoers to sign up for newsletters and membership subscriptions.
6. Teamwork: Collaborate with fellow sales associates and booth staff to ensure smooth operations. Assist with inventory management, restocking, and daily booth setup and takedown.
Qualifications:
- Previous retail or sales experience preferred, especially in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to engage and connect with diverse individuals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with fairgoers and colleagues.
- Basic point of sales skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and contribute to a positive team dynamic.
- Flexibility to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends during the 2026 Minnesota State Fair.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move merchandise boxes.
- Knowledge or interest in public radio and MPR programs is a plus.
Duration and Compensation:
This position is temporary and will last for the duration of the Minnesota State Fair. Sales Associates will be responsible for getting to the State Fair, but MPR will provide bus passes as available. Sales Associates will be required to attend an orientation and training session prior to the start of the Fair. Compensation will be provided on an hourly basis, $18-$20/hour.
