Simon & Schuster is seeking a Sales Associate to join the Distribution Client National Accounts Sales team. This newly created role will support the sales efforts for children’s and adult distribution client titles to Ingram Content Group, with a focus on reporting, buy grid preparation, sales analysis, and account support.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and comfortable working across multiple priorities in a fast-paced publishing environment. This role requires strong communication skills, high technical proficiency in Excel, and the ability to build productive relationships with internal teams, distribution clients, and account contacts.
Responsibilities
• Assist Distribution Client National Account Managers with selling children’s and adult client titles to Ingram Content Group.
• Assist with sales call preparation and follow-up meetings with managers, clients, and account contacts.
• Support the creation, organization, and automation of Ingram buy grids.
• Interface with Sales Operations to help automate Ingram sales processes and reporting.
• Analyze weekly sales performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and minimize returns.
• Maintain accurate estimates and support forecasting for client titles.
• Provide market feedback on covers, packaging, positioning, and content for sales conferences and client meetings.
• Help build and maintain strong relationships with Ingram buying and marketing teams, internal stakeholders, and distribution clients.
• Support sales across a wide range of categories, including manga, graphic novels, pop culture, romantasy, self-help, test prep, health and wellness, business, art, mysteries and thrillers, politics, cookbooks, adult coloring, tarot, and licensed and non-licensed children’s books.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of experience assisting sales in the publishing industry required.
• Experience with Ingram, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Baker & Taylor or similar national accounts strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with iQ and the Ingram buy grid process preferred.
• Experience working with distribution clients a plus.
• Strong Excel skills required.
• Proficiency with ChatGPT, Circana, Word, PowerPoint, and Edelweiss required.
• Strong analytical, technical, organizational, and communication skills needed.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with account contacts, clients, and all levels of management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining close attention to detail and deadlines.
• Passionate, dedicated reader with broad interests across publishing categories.
Travel
This position may require travel for semi-seasonal sales calls to Ingram in Nashville, Tennessee, approximately 2 times per year.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
