Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Promote OMICRON Partial Discharge products, with a focus on PD Monitoring, and develop customer opportunities across North America through customer visits, technical discussions, and industry engagement, in alignment with regional and global business strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with utilities, OEMs, consultants, industry organizations, sales colleagues, representatives, and global product and application teams.
  • Work with the local and worldwide PD team to translate business direction into account plans, market priorities, opportunity strategies, and application activities.
  • Engage customers in technical discussions about monitoring needs, asset applications, system requirements, and expected outcomes; help shape suitable solutions and commercial offers.
  • Represent OMICRON PD Monitoring in customer and industry settings through presentations, demonstrations, workshops, training, and technical contributions.
  • Provide application support and troubleshoot technical issues for customers and sales colleagues, drawing on internal and global expertise as needed.
  • Develop market knowledge and communicate customer needs, competitive information, product feedback, and application opportunities to regional and global teams.
  • Make recommendations and suggestions for new products, service markets and process improvements.
  • Support projects from opportunity development through implementation planning and post-sale follow-up. Coordinate installation with PD Monitoring Business Partners and commissioning or service support with OMICRON engineering services and internal experts.
  • Coordinate quotations with Sales Support, maintain accurate CRM information and forecasts, and follow opportunities through the sales process.
  • Contribute to technical papers, application notes, presentations, and other knowledge-sharing activities that strengthen OMICRON’s industry presence and regional expertise.
  • Build deeper PD Monitoring expertise through coaching, training, and field experience, taking on progressively greater responsibility for customer applications and projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Technical Business Development Manager for Partial Discharges.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and engage effectively with technical, commercial, and management audiences.
  • Knowledge of electric power systems, high-voltage assets, and testing and maintenance practices that support reliable power systems.
  • Familiarity with condition monitoring is an asset.
  • Foundational understanding of Partial Discharge theory is a strong asset.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations, workshops, and customer training.
  • Analytical and resourceful approach to application questions and troubleshooting, including sound judgment about when to involve internal or global experts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the organization and business processes employed by electric power companies, government agencies, manufacturers and industrial consumers of bulk power in the North America market.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare customer follow-ups, reports, presentations, and technical contributions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, and with CRM systems; willingness to learn company tools and processes.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their appropriate use in a professional setting.
  • Fluent English required. Additional language skills relevant to the North American market are an asset.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 50%), primarily within the USA and Canada, typically for trips of up to one week. Occasional international travel may be required, including less frequent extended stays.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years of experience in power systems, especially in the field of Primary/High Voltage testing and field diagnostics. Including, but are not limited to: Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and/or Partial Discharge (PD).
  • Proven experience in the utility, OEM or consulting services is considered an asset.
  • Sales experience in selling testing equipment, testing services, instrumentation or apparatus for the electric power industry are a plus.
  • Participation in international, national, regional and local internal meetings, conferences, exhibits or seminars is a strong asset.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering is an asset.
  • For applicants in Canada, registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or engineering graduate working toward P.Eng, or eligible to obtain registration, is considered an asset.
  • For applicants in the United-States, registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligibility to obtain PE licensure, is considered an asset.

  • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to visit a Client's office, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location.
  • Hazards such as those encountered in substation environments, such as the presence of high voltage, and other sources of electrical shock may be encountered. May be required to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): hard hats, safety boots, ear protection, safety glasses, fall restraint, and FR clothing.
