We’re looking for a Sales & Application Specialist to join us in Randburg, South Africa with extensive travel across South Africa and Africa.

Join our ophthalmology business and help customers access technology that supports their clinical work. You will combine medical sales expertise with applications support, building strong relationships with customers and key opinion leaders while supporting our portfolio of devices and related consumables.

Your Role

You will develop new business, strengthen customer relationships and provide applications support and maintenance for our installed product portfolio. Understanding customer needs and translating product knowledge into practical guidance, you will help achieve sales targets and deliver a consistent customer experience.

Working with colleagues across sales, marketing and customer service, you will identify growth opportunities, support existing customers and maintain high standards of quality, compliance and professionalism.

The role of Sales & Application Specialist will involve:

  • Proactively identifying new sales opportunities, developing prospective customers and converting opportunities into sales.
  • Achieving or exceeding agreed sales targets, including ophthalmology equipment sales, while supporting customer acquisition and territory growth.
  • Providing applications support and maintenance for the installed product portfolio, helping customers address questions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Presenting products and services that meet customer needs, clearly communicating their features, benefits and value.
  • Building lasting relationships with existing and prospective customers, providing responsive service that supports satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Supporting key opinion leaders in ophthalmology and developing relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining detailed product knowledge and using your training experience to help customers understand product applications.
  • Monitoring market trends, competitor activity and industry developments, translating insights into opportunities for growth.
  • Maintaining accurate Salesforce records of customer interactions, sales calls and pipeline progress, and achieving agreed call rates by customer type.
  • Collaborating across departments to support company objectives and provide coordinated customer support.
  • Providing additional regional support for the wider company portfolio of devices and related consumables when required.
  • Following sales processes, company policies, industry regulations and Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs requirements.

Your Experience

  • A degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in a scientific, engineering, technical or product-related field; science or optometry; business administration; marketing; or another relevant discipline.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in medical sales.
  • Previous sales experience with a proven record of achieving targets.
  • Experience delivering training and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of the theatre environment, alongside excellent knowledge of the regional ophthalmology market.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce.
  • Excellent communication, listening, presentation and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain product value and influence decisions.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and effective time management.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making skills, combined with strategic thinking and a proactive approach.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively, showing initiative, integrity and a strong focus on customer service.
  • An approachable, supportive manner.

It would be desirable if you had:

  • Medical sales experience specifically within ophthalmology.
  • Experience selling in a B2B or B2C environment.
