Seasonal – Summer 2026

Do you have sailing experience and a passion for working with kids? Spend your summer on Children’s Island, one of the most unique camp settings on the North Shore, and help create an unforgettable experience for campers through safe, engaging, and age-appropriate sailing instruction.

The Marblehead YMCA is seeking an experienced Sailing Instructor to lead our sailing program as part of our Children’s Island Summer Camp. This role combines hands-on sailing instruction with traditional camp experiences in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

The Sailing Instructor supports the overall camp mission by designing and delivering a high-quality sailing program that prioritizes safety, skill development, and fun This position follows a 4-day sailing / 1-day general camp weekly schedule and works closely with camp leadership and staff to support daily island operations.

Schedule: Monday - Friday

  • 4 days per week: Sailing instruction and water-based programming

  • 1 day per week: Supporting traditional camp activities as a Group Counselor, Program Staff, or in other operational roles as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate sailing program

  • Provide on-land group instruction and hands-on sailing experiences

  • Supervise campers on the water, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times

  • Plan and facilitate rainy-day or alternative activities when needed

  • Support the overall camp program by assisting in other roles as necessary

  • Promote teamwork, responsibility, and respect while modeling YMCA values

  • Ensure the well-being of all campers and staff during sailing activities

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Current Lifeguard Certification required (or ability to obtain prior to the start of camp)

  • Prior sailing experience required (instructor or comparable leadership experience preferred)

  • Experience working with children in a camp or instructional setting

  • Strong safety awareness and ability to manage groups in a waterfront environment

  • Ability to adapt instruction for different ages and skill levels

  • Team-oriented, flexible, and willing to support multiple aspects of camp life

  • CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain before camp begins)
