Job Description

JOB TITLE: Safety/Training Supervisor

REPORTS TO: General Manager

FLSA STATUS: Exempt , Salaried

FUNCTION: Supervise and provide safety and job training services for feedyard operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assure compliance and secure appropriate documentation with regard to all Federal, State, Local, and Company policies and laws in the areas of safety, training, and environment.

  • Oversee, review, and audit the safety and training programs; identify safety and training needs; conduct audits of safety training material and provide updates as needed.

  • Conduct new hire training and review all new hire documentation to ensure proper procedures have been followed.

  • Monitor projects, operations and/or programs when necessary. For growth and development purposes and to have general knowledge of cattle feeding operations, your responsibilities may include assignments in operations which may require working weekends on occasion.

  • Provide appropriate documents to outside service contractors and ensure contractor compliance with feedlot safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct and oversee incident investigation procedures.

  • Audit operator certification documents and procedures as well as other feedlot safety practices; assist with feedlot retraining procedures.

  • Monitor and facilitate monthly safety reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree; or equivalent related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Comprehension of all job specifications.

  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Database software.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPETENCY:

Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Excellent organizational skills; Excellent communication skills both oral and written; Ability to work independently; Ability to lead projects; Ability to deal effectively and professionally with all levels inside and outside of the organization. Expected to participate in meetings, present numerical data effectively, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, understand business implications of decisions, work within approved budget; develop and implement cost-saving measures; conserve organizational resources, demonstrate knowledge of EEO policy.

To perform safety audits and observations & incident investigations: Pushing/Pulling, Gripping, Reaching, Walking, Standing, Sitting, and Climbing up and down Ladders and Stairs and Equipment. Requires working in all weather conditions; cattle feedlot environment could include noise, animal handling, dust, and working around moving machinery.
