Position Type: Part Time
Salary Range: $19.00 - $19.50 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Safety Training Coordinator provides leadership and management for the organization’s safety initiatives related to risk, safety training, aquatics training, child abuse prevention, and insurance initiatives. This role is responsible for identifying and controlling, eliminating or reducing the conditions and practices which cause loss and/or exposures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates, conducts, and monitors the training needs for Aquatics, Childcare and other employees to attain/maintain CPR, First Aid and AED certifications. Provides or schedules refresher training courses and post-accident follow-ups.
- Develops, implements and supervises department-wide training and safety activities; oversees scheduling of programs and instructors
- Advises staff about changes to certification and safety requirements. Maintains records and prepares reports as necessary to ensure compliance with applicable regulations..
- Serves as an information resource and advisor for staff regarding safety questions.
- Assesses on-the-job performance of safety best practices through observation and training.
- Provides appropriate courses of instruction in lifesaving operations, safety and security programs.
- Promotes safety through engagement of all employees by participating in safety committees and training programs.
- Plans, reviews and updates safety policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures. Makes recommendations to management to minimize risk exposure.
- Reviews and maintains facility emergency plans; coordinates with Fire Department, police staff.
- Conducts facility risk assessments for main branch and satellite locations.
- Responsible for Safety Risk Assessments through the management of accident investigations and hazard identifications and coordination of employee injuries with the Employee Services Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required by business necessity.

QualificationsEDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Four year college degree with significant relevant experience.
- 2+ years’ professional experience in leading or managing others.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management and safety.
- Highly organized with superior supervisory skills and conflict resolution skills.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required. Trainer level certification within 6 months.
- YMCA Lifeguard Training certification preferred, but not required.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent language/communication/presentation/training skills with the capacity to engage multiple and diverse constituencies
- Comfortable speaking in front of various sizes and types of audiences, speaking with authority, professionalism and composure.
- Ability to communicate with all staff, volunteers, members, participants, and guests while being resourceful, detail-oriented, and flexible; possessing a positive attitude, tact and sensitivity
- Computer literate with the ability to create and generate reports; ability to navigate multiple technology platforms, develop and maintain accurate recordkeeping systems, evaluate data and recognize trends
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong “people” skills to provide outstanding service for members and coworkers
- Basic knowledge of pool chemistry and maintenance is preferred
- Reliable and punctual attendance
- Must complete all required certifications and trainings and renewals as dictated by policy
- Must attend department and coordinator meetings as scheduled
- Must pass a criminal background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The employee is frequently required to sit, kneel, stand, stoop, reach and manipulate hands to handle, feel or operate life saving equipment.
- May require lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling less than thirty (30) pounds without assistance.
- The employee is regularly required to use visual, auditory, written and oral communication skills; observe and possibly interpret people and situations; analyze and solve problems.
- May require exposure to pools, wet and very humid conditions, and chemicals.
- Work requires continuous situational awareness.
- The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to loud depending upon the programming that is occurring at the time.
