Summary

The City of Springfield is currently seeking a Safety Technician to represent the Public Works Department. The City's objective is to reduce the number of injuries and illnesses to an absolute minimum. The cost of accidents and injuries in lost productivity, medical expenses, and material replacement take away from the resources available to perform the City's primary missions. The Public Works Department strives to provide a safe working environment with all safety aids and protection necessary for personal safety. A successful candidate should possess a knowledge of safety management techniques, work-place safety hazards and safety principles. As a Safety Technician, you will assist the Department Safety Coordinator with implementing and maintaining a safety management system for the Public Works Department.

Examples of duties

Experience, Education, and Training

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related area;

OR

  • Two years of related work experience in a construction, maintenance, or repair area of work similar to that performed in Public Works/Environmental Services;

AND

  • Two years of experience in public safety management or significant responsibilities administering safety training;
  • Directly related corporate or public safety work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing/Certification

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
