The Position: The Safety Supervisor plays a key role in advancing a strong safety culture across manufacturing operations by supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of plant safety and occupational health programs. This role partners closely with plant leadership and hourly teams to ensure regulatory compliance, promote employee engagement in safe work practices, and uphold environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards. The Safety Supervisor assists in identifying workplace hazards, monitoring compliance activities, investigating incidents, and driving corrective actions to reduce risk and ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Hazard Identification: Proactively identify and report hazards, implementing immediate corrections to prevent accidents.
  • Policy Enforcement: Ensure employees remain compliant and adhere to all company policies.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of training, audits, and incident reports.
  • Compliance and Program Management: Maintain and enforce State and Federal regulations, updating safety policies as applicable.
  • Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular, documented inspections of machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations. Identify hazards and implement corrective actions based on findings from audits.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training, including new hire orientations and specialized workshops as well audit existing records to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate work related safety incidents with the support of local management team to determine root cause, corrective actions and incident mitigation.
  • Leadership and Coordination: collaborate and partner with local management team to create and implement site specific strategies as well as aid in the partnership of developing a proactive safety culture.
  • Corrective Action Management: Track, verify, and document completion and effectiveness of corrective actions resulting from incidents, inspections, and audits.
  • Metrics & Continuous Improvement: Monitor safety performance indicators, analyze trends, and recommend improvement initiatives to reduce incidents and improve overall site safety performance.
  • Emergency Response & Preparedness: Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and incident response activities, and ensure employees are trained on emergency procedures.

Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Occupation Safety Management or related discipline preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Skills: Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations for general industry. Ability to assist all levels of the organization in understanding and complying with these.
    • Understanding of environmental regulations. Ability to assist all levels of the organization in understanding and complying with these.
    • Knowledge about design and assembly of dry freight vans to the extent necessary to make high-level health, safety and environmental decisions.
    • Ability to perform basic first aid, emergency first aid including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other activities consistent with the first aid response program.
    • Basic understanding of welding, spray painting, shot and glass bead blasting, assembly and fabrication equipment operation to the extent that one can analyze hazards, and facilitate safety processes and programs.
    • Effective communication skills include meeting interaction, one-to-one employee interactions, written communication, email, interdepartmental interactions and cross-functional interactions.
    • Effective training and facilitation skills include preparing for, presenting and helping other people interact during meetings and training classes that may consist of 2-20 participants.
    • Computer data entry and email capability.
  • Travel: Minimal; Up to 10%.
