Who we are looking for:

The Safety Specialist will champion our “safety-first” culture by serving as a trusted and accessible safety coach. You will support the Safety Department through proactive field engagement, practical safety education and joint problem-solving. The role will focus on identifying hazards, sharing actionable safety insights and promoting safe work practices.

What you’ll be doing:

Including but not limited to:

  • Assist Safety Manager in conducting regular field visits with CMT technicians, geotechnical drillers and other personnel to observe work, identify hazards, and provide practical coaching.
  • Reinforce PPE requirements, safety expectations, and Stop Work Authority.
  • Support safe operations involving drilling, sampling, testing, excavation, utility and roadway work, and construction.
  • Assist Safety Manager by helping conduct safety observations, inspections, audits, JSAs and AHAs. Track and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Support new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and employee training.
  • Develop professional safety presentations, training materials, reports, and communications tailored to observed field needs.
  • Provide field-based education focused on observed hazards, prevention, and employee needs.
  • Assist in the investigation of injuries, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes.
  • Document findings and communicate lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need to have:

  • Degree in Safety preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of relevant safety experience.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA desired.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety practices.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and meet F&R’s requirements for operating a company vehicle.
  • Ability to work in different environments, such as, cold, heat, and rain.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and travel regularly. (Overnight travel required).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, listening, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate safety concerns respectfully, including difficult or corrective conversations.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Be a high-energy, positive, and enthusiastic communicator.
  • Ability to safely navigate and work within active construction sites, including uneven terrain, changing site conditions, heavy equipment, and other common construction hazards.
