Environmental, Health & SafetyThe Field Safety Specialist is responsible for providing day-to-day support to Operations, Maintenance, and the Contractor workforce by implementing specific Health & Safety programs by providing coaching on hazard identification risk assessment, incident investigations and prevention, conducting observations, safety compliance, providing information on safety management systems, and other general safety and health tasks at the Yazoo City Complex. Must be able to maintain a strong working knowledge of a wide variety of safety regulations and issues and performs tasks to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Role: 70 percent in the office, 30 percent in the field.
Support Safety at the CF Yazoo City Complex by providing technical and administrative support to achieve site and company safety goals.
Develop and maintain excellent communication and collaboration across site technical disciplines in order to reach the target audience of employees, contractors, and visitors to deliver and promote key safety messages.
Develops and implements safety policies, programs, and processes that meet or exceed regulatory and company expectations. Works with all departments to review barriers to meeting expectations.
Assist with the development and utilization of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards.
Coordinate the safety work order program for the shift to ensure proper prioritization and completion of outstanding items.
Participate in incident/ accident investigations.
Responsible for the follow-up of action items coming out of audits, incident investigations, and the management of change process.
Identifies and implements best practices and leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
Maintains required stock of safety equipment, personnel training, injury and incident records, and workers’ compensation case management.
Develop reports, action plans, and ensures timely follow-up for corrective actions identified through internal and external audits, incident investigations, industry best practice initiatives, etc.
Other duties associated with the safety superintendent as needed.
Incumbent Attributes:
• Education: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, or relevant discipline preferred, as well as CPR and First Aid is desirable.
• Years of experience: 2 or more years of related professional work experience is required to complete all essential job functions.
• Other unique job relevant attributes:
o Industry knowledge: Experience with health, safety, hygiene and environmental standards and their application in the field. Experience with safety audits and inspections.
o Risk Mitigation: Demonstrated knowledge of risk prevention strategies along with risk assessment and mitigation applications to field activities.
o Incident Investigation: Experience conducting incident investigations through use of interviewing techniques and root cause analysis.
o Training and development: Developing and delivering training to diverse audiences. Knowledgeable in how to effectively coach others within a manufacturing environment.
o Judgment and decision making: Considering the long- and short-term implications of potential actions and their impacts to choose the most appropriate course.
