Job Description

ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

We are seeking an experienced Safety & Security Manager responsible for providing strategic oversight and leadership to the organization’s safety and security programs and policies including physical security, workplace violence prevention and response, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and enforcement of comprehensive security protocols, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for all employees and visitors. This role requires a professional with a proven track record of leading and influencing cross functional teams in a matrix environment, effectively communicating at all levels of the organization, and solid composure in high-pressure situations.

How you will make an Impact
This role offers you the opportunity to lead and influence in a function that continues to grow and mature in our company. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, you will work closely and regularly with many cross-functional teams including HR, Legal, Facilities, Enterprise Risk, IT/Cyber Security, and Finance, as well as numerous external vendors.

• Safety & Security Strategy, Governance & Policy Development: Design, implement, and audit internal safety & security policies and standard operating procedures for two distinct corporate sites and building specifications for a third to mitigate organizational risk across a multi-disciplinary, matrixed team.
• Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day safety & security operations on- and off-campus, as well as online domains, including the selection and supervision of third-party vendors to ensure consistent adherence to company standards.
• Risk & Vulnerability Assessment: Conduct regular site inspections, online and digital sentiment analysis and risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
• Incident Management & Investigation: Lead the proactive investigation of potential security gaps, document findings with high accuracy, and serve as the primary driver for pursuing needed changes.
• Crisis Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire safety, active threat protocols, and evacuation procedures along with criteria for escalation and coordination with established crisis protocols.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all security measures comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry-specific standards.

What we are looking for
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in workforce, physical, or corporate security inclusive of program design, execution, and oversight, preferably in the energy or critical infrastructure sector.
• Demonstrated experience in workplace violence prevention, investigations, and overseeing executive protection.
• Proven ability to coordinate with emergency management, continuity, facilities, legal, HR and cybersecurity teams.
• Experience with vendor management and third-party security oversight.
• Excellent interpersonal, investigative, and communication skills for sensitive workforce matters.

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
• Strong understanding of NERC CIP-006 and CIP-014 requirements
• Ability to obtain Massachusetts CORI certification on behalf of ISO New England
• Master’s degree or advanced coursework in security
• Professional certifications such as:
◦ Certified Protection Professional (CPP) – ASIS International
◦ Physical Security Professional (PSP) – ASIS International
◦ Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP) – NAC
◦ Workplace Violence Prevention Specialist (WVPS)
• Experience with enterprise-level Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) or case management systems.

The expected salary range for this position is $185,000 - $220,000 per year.
