Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Encourage safety in the workplace
  • Ensure with regular inspections that the appropriate safety regulations are followed in the workplace
  • Regularly review the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP)
  • Assist with updating the IIPP as needed; keep the employees informed about changes
  • Assist with maintaining OSHA-mandated safety posters and monitor compliance
  • Participate in interviews of supervisors and employees to obtain facts about work place safety concerns
  • Participate in investigation of jobsite incidents
  • Observe employees at work to determine compliance with safety precautions and safety equipment used
  • Assist with correction of safety hazards identified
  • Order suspension of activity posing threat to workers
  • Write and update Job Hazardous Analysis (JHA or AHA) for each new project or task, in order to protect workers
  • Competent at inspection of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure compliance
  • Work closely with safety representation from other on-site organizations to identify hazards and determine solutions for site-wide issues
  • Reviewing Pre-Task Plan (PTP) daily with field crews
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and document inspection results
  • Assist with correction of safety hazards identified and perform verbal and/or written coaching when required
  • Prepare and distribute Tool Box Talk topics
  • Other duties, as assigned
  • Employee may be required to work extended hours (more than 8 hours per day), weekends, and holidays. Employee will be compensated based on guidelines in the Fair Labor Standards Act

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired, and some basic construction experience
  • Favorable driver’s record/valid license required
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during work activities
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Knowledge and acceptance of good health and safety principles and practices during work
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company regulations, protocols, and/or procedures
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols
  • Ability to assist with maintenance of recordkeeping
