Job Description

The Safety Program Professional is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving enterprise safety programs across the business. This role serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for one or more critical risk areas, including electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and crane operations. Collaborating with Operations, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Legal, this position ensures regulatory compliance, program consistency, and effective risk management across multiple states and business units. On a day-to-day basis, the individual will analyze unique, complex technical problems, lead program reviews, support incident investigations, and deliver strategic solutions where precedent may not exist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the corporate subject matter expert (SME) for assigned high-risk safety programs.
  • Develop, maintain, and update company safety standards, policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to assess organizational impacts.
  • Lead periodic program reviews and gap assessments against regulatory mandates and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain compliance tools, field resources, and audit/inspection protocols.
  • Support incident investigations involving assigned safety program areas and assist in identifying sustainable corrective actions.
  • Analyze unique and complex technical problems, delivering safety solutions where precedent may not exist.
  • Analyze trends and recommend targeted improvements to reduce risk and improve organizational compliance.
  • Collaborate with field safety teams to ensure consistent implementation of safety programs across all environments.
  • Support regulatory agency inspections (including OSHA and state-level agencies) and manage official responses.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture across multi-state operations by designing and implementing worker engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to improve safety performance and operational excellence.

Position Requirements (Work Experience, Skills, Licenses, etc.):

  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and various state-level workplace safety requirements.
  • Proven experience developing technical safety programs, standards, and training materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise or program-specific certifications in one or more critical risk areas (e.g., NCCCO, NFPA 70E, or Competent Person training in excavation, scaffolding, or fall protection).

  • Experience supporting safety initiatives across multi-state operations.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting regulatory compliance audits and detailed risk assessments.

  • Strong problem-solving capability with a track record of identifying and mitigating high-risk field hazards.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.

  • 7 or more years of safety management experience within construction, industrial, utility, or manufacturing environments.

Desired:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or equivalent professional certification.

Travel Requirements:

Travel to field, shop, and project sites may be required 20–30% of the time

Hours:

This is an exempt position. Workdays are scheduled from Monday through Friday. Typically, work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm as scheduled with the position's supervisor.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged sitting and regular walking.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

Competitive Wages:

$90,000 to $135,000 Annual Salary. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
