Job Description

$16.00 per hour

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required
  • Must possess a valid Missouri State operator's license
  • Must have a clean driving record for the past ten (10) years
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Must be able to demonstrate good driving skills in all types of weather and road conditions
  • Must be able to carry approximately twenty (20) pounds a distance of fifty (50) yards
  • Must be able to operate a two way radio and have a clear voice
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable

Reports to:
Director of Public Safety

Job Goal:
Facilitates the movement of buses to maintain their scheduled routes and school start times.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Manually control light for intersection of M-78 Highway and Speck Road from approximately 7:45 am to 8:00 am and from 3:00 pm to 3:20 pm on days school is in session during the regular nine month school year
  • Stop traffic in both directions on Lee's Summit Road in front of Glendale Elementary School from 3:50 pm to 4:00 pm to allow buses out of the school drive
  • Delivery of any school documents, letters, or Board packets as need arises through the work week between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm
  • Demonstrate dependability by being on time
  • Exercise discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Display a good attitude, work ethic and ability to make good decisions regarding controlling traffic
  • Complete other duties as defined and assigned


Terms of Employment:
The Safety Officer will be employed for a nine (9) month position. The salary and the work year will be established annually by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy by the immediate supervisor, utilizing the Independence School District Safety Officer Performance Based Evaluation.
