We’re looking for a Safety & Investigation Specialist to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis, based at 700 Collins Street

The Safety Investigation Specialist conducts investigations in accordance with MTM’s Safety Management System (SMS) requirements. This role plays a crucial part in identifying the underlying factors that contributed to an incident, outlining key findings, and developing effective corrective actions to address the root causes.

As the Safety Investigation Specialist, your responsibilities include identifying emerging safety issues and trends in OPD’s operational environment cross functionally. Additionally, you will contribute to management system communications including but not limited to sharing learnings to enhance organizational knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse security, safety and operational data to identify risks, trends and emerging issues across the rail network.
  • Develop intelligence products and insights that support operational decision-making and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct trend, hotspot and behavioural analysis to support intelligence-led operations.
  • Integrate information from multiple sources to build a clear picture of operational risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Prepare concise intelligence reports, briefings and dashboards for operational and senior stakeholders.
  • Support operational assurance activities by assessing incident trends and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI reporting, datasets and analytical tools to support Security Operations.

Qualifications, Skills

  • ICAM Lead Investigator or TapRoot Advanced Root Cause Analysis Team Leader.
  • TTSA (Track Safety Awareness).
  • Demonstrated capability to collect, observe, question and analyse information and evidence objectively and professionally.
  • Proven capacity to autonomously complete high-quality investigation reports.
  • Sound judgement skills, with the capability to appropriately escalate matters and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of management and staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Well-developed organisational and planning skills to manage competing priorities and ensure strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel across the MTM network and conduct site visits to fulfil functional responsibilities as required.
