Job Description
This position is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating safety, compliance, and commercial driver training programs for new and existing employees across Georgia Power. The role places a strong emphasis on CDL driver competency, regulatory compliance, and measurable safety performance improvement Training is primarily conducted in the Metro Atlanta area, with statewide travel required to support training delivery, safety initiatives, meetings, audits, and storm restoration activities, including occasional overnight stays. This position requires extensive field-based instruction, including spending significant time inside commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). The incumbent should expect to ride along with drivers and provide hands-on coaching for extended periods, typically 6-8 hours per day, while conducting behind-the-wheel training and evaluations. This role partners closely with hiring teams, supervisors, Workforce Development, and Power Delivery Technical Training to schedule and administer commercial driver onboarding, certification, and refresher training programs. The position also collaborates with Safety Specialists statewide to deliver consistent training, implement injury prevention strategies, and support Georgia Power’s Pursuing Safety Excellence culture. The position supports safety during storm restoration, promotes Southern Company’s wellness programs, and advances Behavior-Based Safety initiatives such as S.T.E.P. (Safety Through Everyone’s Participation) and Critical Risk Plans. Maintains confidentiality of safety-related information and actively participates in safety meetings, evaluations, and regulatory interactions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience driving commercial vehicles required
- Transmission and/or Distribution experience is preferred
- Valid Class A CDL and medical card required
- Must have strong presentation skills
- Experience developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and compliance requirements is strongly preferred
- Training or instructional experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of commercial driving practices and safety regulations (DOT/FMCSA)
- Relevant safety, training, or compliance certifications are highly desired
- Demonstrated ability to deliver classroom and hands-on training
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) across all organizational levels
- Ability to interpret safety rules and regulations
- Strong analytical skills with ability to apply data to improve performance
- Credibility with employees and leadership; ability to influence behavior and drive change
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Extensive field-based role with daily in-cab training within Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs)
- Ability to ride along and actively train drivers for 6–8 hours per day
- Must be able to safely enter, exit, and operate within heavy-duty vehicles
- Ability to work in various weather and field conditions
- Requires a combination of classroom instruction and prolonged hands-on driver coaching
- Must be able to support field operations, including storm restoration activities

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Power BI)
- Ability to analyze and interpret safety and performance data
- Willingness to travel statewide, including overnight stays
- Actively support risk reduction through observations and Job Safety Briefings
- Investigate non-compliance incidents and ensure proper regulatory notifications

Additional Information:
This position requires the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The selected candidate must:
- Hold a valid driver’s license with at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
- Have no revoked driving privileges within the past 36 months.
- Have no major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the past 12 months and no pending major violations at the time of application.
- Consent to continuous monitoring of their Motor Vehicle Record.
