Medcor Safety is recruiting an experienced Safety Director on behalf of one of our clients, a growing specialty construction organization supporting complex crane, rigging, steel erection, heavy transportation, and industrial projects.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a proven safety professional who can operate at both the strategic and field levels—setting the direction of the safety program while partnering closely with executive leadership, operational teams, and field leaders to reduce risk and strengthen safety performance across the organization.

This is a direct-hire position with our client, with Medcor Safety managing the recruitment and candidate selection process.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This is more than a role maintaining an established safety program. The Safety Director will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape enterprise-wide safety strategy across a growing specialty construction organization
  • Partner directly with executive leadership on business-critical safety and operational initiatives
  • Influence decision-making across field operations, project leadership, and senior management
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing safety team
  • Support complex crane, rigging, steel erection, heavy transportation, and specialty construction projects
  • Develop scalable safety systems that support continued organizational growth
  • Help create a safety culture that strengthens both operational performance and the client’s competitive position

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the company's overall safety strategy across operations, projects, and business units
  • Partner with executive and operational leadership to strengthen safety performance and operational excellence
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve enterprise safety programs, policies, standards, and management systems
  • Coach operational leaders and build accountability for safety throughout the organization
  • Conduct executive-level safety reviews, audits, field assessments, and operational evaluations
  • Lead investigations involving serious incidents, near misses, and high-potential events
  • Drive root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are effective and sustainable
  • Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory and client requirements
  • Identify and proactively address organizational and project-level risk
  • Mentor and develop safety professionals while building a culture of ownership, engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with field leadership to ensure safety expectations translate into consistent execution at the project level

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or a related field
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
  • 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Experience leading safety programs across multiple projects, locations, or business units
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926)
  • Demonstrated experience leading serious incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Experience partnering directly with executive, operational, and field leadership
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites and operational locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 500 Construction Outreach Trainer
  • CSP, CHST, CIH, or comparable professional safety certification
  • Experience supporting crane and rigging operations, steel erection, heavy transportation, industrial construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, EPC, or heavy civil environments
  • Experience developing scalable safety programs within a growing or multi-location organization
  • Proven experience building, mentoring, and leading high-performing safety teams

What Success Looks Like

  • Improved safety performance across operations and project locations
  • Reduced organizational and operational risk exposure
  • Stronger leadership engagement and accountability
  • Consistent execution of safety standards company-wide
  • Improved leading safety indicators and proactive risk identification
  • Effective implementation and follow-through of corrective actions
  • Increased workforce participation and ownership of safety initiatives
  • Development of scalable safety systems that support long-term organizational growth
